I got a NAS drive and want to back up "my documents" to both my media centre and NAS drive. Fine, right?

I usually use "second copy" to make timed copies of what is on my machine. Previously with XP I selected which folders (i.e. "my documents and settings") and it was sorted.

Now with Vista it tells me access is denied if I try to use:

C:/users/myname/documents as a path :bang:

So I can only back up specific folders within it as far as I can see, which takes ages to set up and is impossible for the desktop.

I am sure that these "junctions" are not actual paths?

I am probably just being confusing now but am hoping somebody knows exactly how to address it - I am still trawling google though so maybe I will find an answer!

Backing up the desktop folder does work so it's just that Second Copy isn't able to use users/myname/Documents as a valid path - it gets an immediately access denied.

Apparently the Vista back up is awful, I would use onecare but it archives stuff and I like things to be in their "native format" as I am sure you could agree with!

I have set up numerous backup profiles now instead of having one for "documents" and just telling it to do certain folders - simply because Vista seems to not accept users/myname/documents is an actual path I think.

Everything is good now, my Media Centre loses connection with the NAS occasionally but that's down to its wireless connection not being as good as my laptop's connection for no apparent reason. I am pleased with it all now :)

Take ownership of the folder?

Vista is arsey about these things.

Already got ownership, I tried all that.

H; all I need is a program to copy files from one location and put them to another location for a given frequency.

Create a Batch Script?

xcopy and all that cobblers? If you really do have full permission of the file you should be able to do whatever you want with it.

Have you tried the takeown command for taking permission? theres the takeown command and another one which i forget the name of, that is used for taking ownership of files/folders in vista.

I have ownership. SecondCopy does it all without me having to write anything, but it's no good without a genuine path and it seems that the folder is not a usable path :(

It's ok though now I have bodged it.

How is it not a genuine path? Post the path?
