I picked up the following from a deceased estate here in NZ. The guy had 2 vintage fiats.
I'm not sure what years or models these are from and I cant find any data on a vintage Tipo.
Anybody help clarify what they might be off?

Thanks

Hi and welcome.
I believe the tipo 101 was an engine designation:
Maybe most common on the car models 501 and 502 from 1919-1926:
There might be someone more knowledgeable who can tell more from that serial number 1100957

Thanks Guys that was a good help.
Below is pics of the one Fiat still there, do you know what model & year?
What do you think the round background plate is off? Surely not a rev counter.
Thanks

It looks very 501 to me, not sure of the specific model. Certainly has the type 101 engine. @rogerbeattie?

It's interesting having the bodywork shroud behind the front seats but with four doors.

About the closest I could find was this 1926 501 S Torpedo:

Oil pressure

Wow great information, thanks so much for your help.
If I go back there I will look to see if there is engine number plate missing on the remaining car.
And yes looks like you are exactly correct, its a oil pressure gauge back plate. Maybe I can find somebody that is needing one going forward.
What are the reports about the type 101 engines? Are they any good?
I see he has fitted an alternator.
Thanks

It is definitely a 501, the engine type is 101. The other face is probably oil pressure as they used a number of scales. Where in NZ are you/ I was over there for a Fiat event last month in Kaikoura and spent a bit of time examining other old Fiat collections in the area. Interesting body on the 501? What are your plans for it? I am arranging a big trip across Australia in 2026 to commemorate the 1926 crossing by the Fiat Club of WA in mostly 501s with a 503 and a 505F along for the trip. Here are a couplr of local (Australian 501s at a recent event I organised.

It certainly is a 501 ..... or a 502, only real difference is 100mm longer wheelbase. The bodies were manufactured locally for New Zealand and Australian cars. In Australia there were about 10 different body suppliers, mostly tourers (torpedoes) but plenty of Doctors Coupes (see pic) too ....Sedans (berlinas) were mostly full imports with factory bodies.
