Veggie oil

If all cars say in 20 years time ran on veg oil, would there be enough supply? We currently use millions of barrels of oil a day, it takes more than a day for a field to grow back, so is it really a realistic alternative?

Good question, what is the yield per acre and it only grows some of the year in Europe as well.

I seriously doubt that oil will run out in 2060, there are plenty of reserves which are not cost effective to access at the moment but if there is no option we will have to. I am not saying that is a solution and something needs to be done, but there is a lot hype going on.

They have been saying we will run out of fuel for decades and decades - possibly longer.

Maybe they should quadruple the tax on LPG as well :chin:

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I ran my Fourtrak on veg oil for over a year, no problem with this engine as is has a decent fuel pump. Many diesel cars won't run on veg oil, either because of the fuel pump, or with modern engines, common rail, HDi etc, they can't handle the viscosity of the fuel.
There are several websites on this subject, both for using and producing.

Thats just a start. If you search, there are hundreds more.

seeing diesel is classed as a dirty fuel and is enviromently bad,let them launch a hybrid engine.lets call it a detrol engine.lower compression at say 16:1,and run it on methenol and rape seed.why have just one type of fuel available.have as many as possible.you pick your choice.you could have a rape seed pump, alcohol based pumps, veg oil pump, synthetic oil pump,LPG,detrol, natural gas.and plenty more if you want.:)

Nige from Angel Tuning I believe has run his 2.4JTD alfa on it for a while, maybe he will comment at some point.

However, even if current engines are poor at using it (not true) then it should still be possible for engines to be developed just for it!

We have 2 x JTD's in Angel Tuning that have been running without problem on Bio for some 5 months... some combined 40k miles. Love it!

Nige, do you run a customised map for those cars to prevent damage?

My grandfather just asked me about this, less about the uses and more about the practicality of actually producing it on a large scale outside of the UK. The medium term economic game would be spectacular when (or if!) it takes off.
