General Vanning it up

So it looks like cutting my roof off may be a bad idea (for now), so perhaps stage one should be turning it into a van as this is pretty much how I use it anyway. This would also get the back empty so I can see if roof off at a later date is not a nut job after all. Any pics or ideas, I am beyond boy racer so no big speakers in the back (I still drive like one, just don't want to look like one).

and yet another person to chop up a perfectly good cinq now they are all disappearing!

I'm no expert but since my insurance just dropped £600 and I'm 20 with a Sei SX is it not more practical to buy a van and save a cinq?

I completely agree with you. I have had many a bit for my sei from scrapped or written off vehicles but from what I can gather from other threads is that it is a perfectly good cinq, just a little boredom has set in

Don't get me wrong some of the polish Sei and Cinq vans/pickups are amazing, just prefer them looking stock

Yup, but naw. Finding someone who will insure a van conversion without a test or at least engineers report could be difficult

Never thought of it like that, just though its taking the seats and putting a flat back in it really. Perhaps I can leave the seats in and go over the top with something removable and pretend its temporary

all you have to do is get an sva style test done on it to make sure its road legal and safe. if you take the rear seats out and do it officically then you must remove the seat belts and weld over the anchor point so they cant be refitted, what you could do is just remove the seats but leave the seat belts in and when it comes to mot time as long as you throw the seats back in (about 3mins 41secs to do) then it will fly through and then get limo tints for the back, job jobbed.

If theyre not fitted they cant be tested, ie no rear seats, no need for seat belts, if theyre fitted they must be tested.

I cant believe there is so much too it, its not as if I am changing the body or engine in anyway. This is minor changes surely. Cosmetic stuff, does that need a test to prove its safe to drive?

There isn't!
The MOT will give you an advisory on your MOT sheet stating (& I quote here from my experience 2 months ago) 'Rear Seats Removed'. That's it- no pain, no fuss!
You might want to inform your insurers that you have temporarily removed the seats -just to cover your backside.

If you're not bothered by the hassle of transporting ankle-biters around then take the rear seats out, & put in a piece of sheet to level the floor & use some of the seatbelt screw holes to secure it (plug the others to stop water ingress).... or just bung some carpet over the floor.
Do build a guard to stop yourself being hit on the back of the head by a supersonic tin of baked beans during an emergency stop (read Pirus' near death experience with a flying battery!).
I'm currently building a guard out of an old metal bed-frame, it will cost me the extortionate price of a couple of pints to get a mate to weld it all up
