There is a news on the internet that Fiat are developing a 4.0 V8 Diesel engine to compete with VAG.

What are your thoughts on this.

If they did bring it out i will be first in line to get one.

Everyone says fiat but in reality its for the Maserati marquee where they are trying to go head to head with the likes of Audi BMW and Mercedes

In that respect fiat already produce a number of v8 and V12 engines for other fiat group cars

Would have thought it would be handy for the top spec jeeps and Chryslers in Europe too.

Would have thought chances of seeing it in a fiat badged car are remote unless they do actually release a 500xxxxxxl

If this is going to be a Maserati motor I don't expect to see it in a Jeep in my lifetime. Jeep just doesn't have the Range Rover-Audi-BMW-Merc cachet or anything close to it. It might go into certain Alfa Romeo models in the future, especially the long overdue SUV from that brand. Or how about an 8C JTDM?

Easy task - VM already do a 3.0 V6 which could have another pair of cylinders added. Probably will be for Maserati, Alfa (remote chance) even Ferrari (extremely remote chance) and all manner of rebadges for other makers. Let's not forget Chrysler and their RAM brand either.

The new Maserati Ghibli which the V8 diesel is planned for, comes with an apparently all new 3.0 v6 diesel co-developed with ferrari by all accounts the VM engine wasn't refined enough.

Because of this co-op with ferrari and that ferrari has already made a move into hybrid technology it does pave the way to some degree of future ferrari diesel engines ???

Ferrari may be very good at petrol engines - but where is their diesel experience? - my guess is that FPT has done the work in reality with Ferrari lending their name. Bet my bottom dollar that 3.0 V6 uses the existing block but further refined and developed by FPT under the guise of Ferrari / Maserati to lend some credence to it being all new !

apparently on further reading the engine was indeed developed by ferrari at the Maranello plant, though it is unclear if it was derived from the VM unit it is much more refined. any V8 version would in effect be a completely new engine.

Ferrari stated that although they developed it they have absolutely no intention of putting an oil burner in any of their cars ever !!!

Everyone says fiat but i think its for the Maserati marquee where they are trying to go with companies Rolls royce BMW and Mercedes . . . .
