now under XP it states no driver required and its plug n play.obviously not for me :(

using my spare 3.5" IDE hard drives it did install but showed an error on install.
it then flashed up this device can perform faster connected ot a USB2 port.
however all my ports are USB2.
its a new nforce 4 mobo running on xp pro SP 2.

also tried a spare DVD drive which powered up but didnt show on my computer

ive tried it on a few USB ports as i thought it was my front ports but even directly to the motherboard its the same.
ports work for everything else.

hard drive powers up but doesnt show in my computer.
ive tried CS,master and slave jumper settings.
dunno what info you need or whether its just a faulty unit.
so if you need me to give any info ask away :D

edit: it just flashed up the usb2 message even though the drive isnt connected

aye ,well any IDE drive so DVD's as well.
ive updated the mobo bios
uninstalled all the USB drivers

however the plot thickens and i see a fresh install looming :(
nowwhen i plug my ipod in it says the device could operate faster if plugged into a USB 2 port.but it is.
also something keeps tring to access my A drive??????

all this started when i tried plugging that bloody HD cablew thingamabob in .
windows doesnt install a driver for it and just shows it as an unknown device under device manager

Ah sounds like the pc is continually thinking something is installing, I had this with a printer for ages, annoying thing.

Erm the A drive would be related to the usb thing cos some usb stuff have a little cache which looks like a floppy drive when plugged in.

Go into device manager> windows key and break yadda yadda and sort out the exclamation marks then try again.

If you have system restore you could try that, I don't as it slows the pc down churning away in the background.
