Hi all, just pulled up at a mates house and for some stupid reason pushed the brake pedal fully when i stopped. Now my driver rear brake is seized (1/2 mile and glowing red) but iv got to be down south (150m) by 1pm tomoz and i carnt be late let alone noy turn up! Can i do a quick fix to just get it sorted for the journey and replace the caliper when im down there?

PS, ive got hardly any tools here and hitting it with a brick out of desperation didnt work...

your in trouble the rear brake calipers need to be screwed in at the same time as you compress them so hitting em with a brick or anything wont work I dont know of any quick fix for your problem sorry mate (n)

Ruddy hell another hit with the ole brick and its loosened it, just done two laps round town and the discs are just warm...def' getting a new caliper now its been bricked tho.

Phoned up a mate who had i similar prob with his stilo and he said Kwickfit wanted £250 for a new calip' inc fitting!?! What should i be looking at paying as i really dont want to attempt this myself, had enough danger/hassle from Mr Stilo for this year already!!

Did it seize AFTER you put the handbrake on and therefore might be a cable problem? Important difference as a new handbrake cable is pretty cheap compared to a caliper.
Cable £15
Caliper £100

Hi All
From what you have said I would guess the rear pads are worn coupled with disc wear.
I’ve seen this several times before what happens is the piston pushes out beyond its limit and twists sideways, it then jams a whack with a hammer shocks it back straight and allows it to return to its rest position.
Check the pads if they are very worn down just get new pads fitted and have the discs checked at the same time.
I can’t see why you would want to change the calliper if they are not leaking and the brakes pull up straight then they are probably O.K
Good luck
