Technical URGENT: finding TDCs

my old key had snapped on the old camwheel, but we replaced it so this is not the issue.
also, we checked the key earlier and its all intact, so that couldnt have moved.

tried timing the car up about 12 times now, both tdc marks lined up perfectly, yet whenever i try and start the engine it is misfiring and backfiring, like it is out of time?

anyone else had problems like this?

theyre definately lined up in the right places against the marks, im just rather confused now... :(

backfiring into the inlet ?

you could have the coils firing at the wrong time

so change the ht leads from 1and4 on one coil and 3 and 2 on the other coil around

coils and leads have not been touched, so i dont think this is the problem.

it was running ok'ish before cambelt changed, although tick over was erratic, and kept revving itself?

was going from around 1000 revs to around 2k and then dropping back down again, once every 2 - 3 seconds...

any ideas?

ive reset the ecu, and checked all the pipework around the throttlebody, and its still doing it.

sounds like an air leak post throttle body and sensors causing it to "hunt" on idle

did you set the engine to its marks before the belt came off? if not just try and swap the leads over, only will take 30 seconds

Check that the pip is in the hole on the ignition pulley.

If it is, check that the key on the cam pulley hasn't snapped off.
