Your all very polite. You 17 or something!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

Nope, just honest opinions mate.

Look at the first couple of replies to your post. They were honest opinions of the car you bought. Rather than take it on the chin you argued back at why your dinosaur was better than the Bravo. Wrong place to argue really as you're always gonna be out-numbered

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

well what the **** do you expect going on about how great your **** rover is on a fiat forum. of course you are going to get abuse! i'm with Nige on this - **** OFF!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

Grow up

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

Lol! The bloke tells us to grow up and then puts multiple blank posts on the forum. Class Christian.

Shouldnt really do stuff like that when we can see your IP address. I'd get a newer firewall too. Your wallpaper is awful!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

Nige

I forgot the Ford Probe earlier (easy to do) as worse than the Rover Coupe, sorry Christian, I did you an injustice there, you have the third worse Coupe.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

The 216 never had a honda engine, that was the 1.3 only.

As far as tuneability goes, the K series beats the fiat engines no problems. Its a FAR better engine.

Fiat 1.6 => 103bhp
Rover K 1.6 => 120bhp

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

you've got a point tom - you can't argue with those figures, BUT who cares if the 1.6 K engine has more power if they put it into a **** chassis and body like the rover 200!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

Ever tried to get a 216 to go round a corner though Tom!

The "original" 213 was a Honda engine and the 216 the Rover "S" lump (Which only had 103 BHP by the way)

Then in '89 came the Swindon (Honda) 1.6 twin cam 16v that had 110BHP, the same as in the Honda Concerto and that was the K series engine. The 1.3 was dropped for the 1.4 version of the same with 95BHP - to be fair, a cracker of a 1.4)

BUT the whole point I was making was that the coupe was putting a dress on a pig, like the Calibra was.

To be fair I only tested 2 x 2.0 versions, I had to test a second as I thought the first had something wrong with it, but it didnt, they do actually drive that badly!

Cheers
Nige

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

Christian,

you mention that the wover has a Honda engine...what's your point? That a psuedo-car manufacturer like wover recognise that they f*cked up the shape when attempting to design (i refuse to say 'styled') the bodywork and chassis, so they ****-out on the engine in favour of one that works. Very forward thinking.

Seriously, the only people I know who drive these behemoths are either skint, stupid or desperate.
On the plus side, i'm sure the parts are cheap and a YT apprentice could do an engine swap for you in about 20 mins.

ROVER....get back in your cage!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

I had a 1988 213 and it was DIRE!! The engine was nice, 73bhp from 1.3, 12 valves, rev happily but the chassis was a hunk of cack. Everything rattled, the sunroof sometimes opened, the elecy windows were slower than a fiat.

I'm not defending the cars, just the engines.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

I know people are entitled to their opinions, but must straighten it out - dont want people making up crap to slant things.

The original 1.6 Coupe came with the Honda D16 SOHC 16v lump 9(113bhp), in later life they replaced it with the K Series 1.6 (110bhp) - the Concerto 1.6 uses the Honda 1.6 D16 DOHC (136bhp) as used in the 216 GTi Twin Cam.

I own a modified 220 Coupe Turbo, could've bought a Lancia Delta Integrale (which im fond of) however besides great handling and engine, its the longevity/reliability of the car - and these worries are reflected in other italian makes like Fiat, Alfa etc. At the end of the day the overall package (of the coupe turbo) is hard to beat - and this was why it the Autocar magazine it beat the Escort Cosworth and Corrado as best Car overall.

But horses for courses, we all have our love in cars - so lets leave it at that eh?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

Yes, but little brothers isn't a 220 modified turbo. Its a piece of OAP God Bothering transport whose design is an utter shambles.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Living up to your name then........

I am not gonna post anything here slagging off the Rover coupe, others have done that well enough, what I am going to do is say that FIAT make reliable cars.
I have a 1998 'R' HGT, I have had her from new, she is 5 1/2 years old now and she has only ever failed to start once, this was due to a flat battery.
In the 5 1/2 years I have owned her, she has done 94,000 miles.
The only replacement parts I have ever had to buy are:
1 Battery
1 Back box
1 Manifold
Now that's flippin reliable in my book.

The only thing that has broken (the other bits were wear and tear in my book) is the rear wiper.

I will say one thing though, don't post pictures of another make/model of car on a dedicated bravo/brava forum and not expect to be slagged off.

You would do the same if one of us came to your forum and said the reason we didn't buy a Rover cos we bought a Fiat.

So who's the 17 year old?

Balanced opinion

I can add a bit of a balanced opinion here.

I have owned a Bravo HGT and a Coupe VVC. I also owned an Uno turbo, Punto turbo and a Lancia Delta EvoIII, so I can be classed as an italian brand enthusiast. Now these are two cars that can be compared due to the similar engines.

The Bravo is a nice car which comes with a reasonably flexible engine. The Coupe comes with a much more free revving engine and is much more driveable.

The dashboard in both (later MkIII one in the coupe) are equally as bad as each other in their bubbly design.

In standard form, the Bravo probably out handles the Coupe. Add a front strut brace to both and the Coupe is the better of the two. It's lack of roof leaves the stiffness lacking without it.

Now the K series does suffer from head gasket problems, but the revised HG sorts this and will cost around £300 should it fail. The cambelt change on the HGT was quoted as £1200 by my dealer, as opposed to £300 for the Coupe. So I guess you can afford to change the HG and still be £600 in pocket.

I did enjoy the time I owner a Bravo and would do it again. The targa roof on the coupe, just gives it that extra dimension which makes the ownership that bit more enjoyable. Both cars have their good points and their faults (unfortunately the Bravo had more faults develop than the Rover), so I would not say either is a piece of crap.

The other thing that disappointed me with the Bravo was that it never really stood out from the rest of the models. Good in other ways as it is a bit of a sleeper.

Hope people see this a constructive post. That is what it is intended to be.

Stu

Re: Balanced opinion

Stu,

Yup a good constructive post.

I have to disagree with you about the style of the Bravo, I think it does stand out.
Personally I think it is a very stylish car, I like curvy cars.
The cambelt change is indeed a bitch, bad design.
I got the full 72K service including the cam belt change for £600, albeit not from Fiat. Fiat quoted me £1100.

One of my mates had a turbo coupe and it was indeed a nice fast car, just not my taste.

Re: Re: Balanced opinion

i've driven a mint condition rover 220 turbo, it had a lot of torque and was very fast but i just could not stop! you would do 100-0 once and that would be it, brakes were blue and you didn't put your foot down for the rest of the trip. Very poor build quality. you could live with the handling but the targa top was very noisy! The dash is a tiny little lump down by your ancles and i foud it very difficult to drive with being tall. My friend owns it who is normally very car proud, drives them hard but looks after them has become completely dis-heartened with it. He always says he's just abusing it and hoping it lasts until he gets something better. He even got a second car for the trip to work as it wasn't worth the fuel, a 1000 panda believe it or not which he loved and said he could even beat 1.2 novas off the line. lol. he is now considering swapping them for a diesel corsa and s2000. He prefered his mk2 CRX even though it was slower.

Personally i son't dislike the looks and it's quick but i don't think build quality is something you should use as an arguement for it!

Re: Re: Re: Balanced opinion

You are right the turbo coupe cant stop for crap (caught me out a couple of times) - hence the cheap MG ZS/620Ti brake upgrade which Ive done :).

Fiat Brava is okay styling (nothing to dislike), however I do like the Stilo's styling, - is there gonna be a turbo version of this?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Balanced opinion

i have seen a rover 216 modified in the most hideous way i have ever seen a car modified

it is red on the top and all the way around the bottom it is white from the door sill downwards. it has 2 spoilers top and bottom which are the alloys f+tf style ones, he has tsw venom alloys (gimmie standard wheels anyway day over these) and chrome m3 mirrors and a huge white sunstrip saying "rover"

ohh and as a finishing touch he has an exhaust you can put your hand up, absouloutly huge thing obvioustly designed for the jap import cars such as the supra/fto/gto but he has it on his rover 216.

should see the guy as well, looks so proud, lol i was actually pointing and laughfing last time i saw it and i have often hered people speak about it sayin how bloddy awfull it is.

that car has changed my views on rovers for ever, my dad has the 216gsi and yeah it is crap but he loves it, had it since new and i always thought they wernt bad cars, till the red/white atrocity that was that 216

ohh by the way it had "turbo" sticker on the back and it blatantly wasent judgeing by the rattly engine and the 0-60 time of 15minutes
