Have you got a haynes manual? i'm guessing your gonna need to take it apart and clean the jet as it sounds like it's blocked :S

did you drive the car frequently before this started happening or was it stood for a while?

It was stood for 3 months before i came along, the day i picked it up it was fine, although it started playing up on the same day, refusing to start when warm, it started cutting out the day after, but would always restart. Then it seemed there was never a problem for one whole day. Then it quit. I have got a haynes manual, BUT i dont know what carb i am looking for!

Have a look at page 187 on the following document:

http://www.hyperloophoop.com/Uno_HY_Manual.pdf

It could be on there...

Any chance you can getyour hands on some redex fuel line/ injector cleaner from the nearest petrol station.

If you can get the car started with all the pipes connected up, take the air filter unit off so you are looking at the carb itself. Using the throttle cable to make sure the car doesnt stall, slowly pour the contents of the redex bottle directly into the hole. This'll give the carb a good clean out.

In fact, I'd pour one in the tank for the fuel lines and injectors, and one straight into the carb for that.

Don't worry about the cat convertor, redex is fine for it (it says this explicitly on the label).

Yeah i have that manual ;) But the only way i can get the car to start is to pour petrol directly into the carb, and of course the car will run for as long as it takes for the petrol to be used. After that nothing. It seems the injector is blocked, assuming the injector is the big white thing on top of the hole. Just checked page 187 as you suggested but i have an SPI system, so i assume its the same one, will my carb have a fuel filter built into it?? That i didnt check i wasnt aware it had one!

Ive been dancing around the next looking for carb cleaner and found this http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...uctId_189140_langId_-1_categoryId_165750#dtab

Im also going to by Redex but i think that should clear the injector, and any crap in the carb.

If your stripping down the carb, you may aswell get some carb cleaner spray?
when i used to strip down my bike's carbs it made them mint!
looked bloody new and was free of any dirt :p

i wont be stripping the carb down just yet, i need to get the car home first.

In fact though im wondering if it is this.... same intermittant problem, since the day i bought it. Could the big ecu under the dash be at fault?? Im only wondering because if it is the carb being blocked in someway that the blockage clears after being turned over a few times, then another, then another. Im not 100% sure.

Got a headache? Take painkillers. Want a headache? Get a fiat! :p

Removed carb, found the injector jet, even removed from the car it was impossible to ''blow through'' the fuel input. removed the jet, could blow through then no problem, but the fuel output was still blocked. I took it apart and found like a rubber ''diaphram'' for want of a better word. I removed all of it, then blew through the fuel output pipe. Few spits and spatters and then a nice clean blow. I assume the diaphram thingy was blocked and the injector couldnt work under such pressure, (at least thats what im guessing) ive put it all together and i can now blow easily through the fuel input pipe, and i feel some air coming from the diaphram bit. Its all ready to go back on the car tomorrow, so fingers crossed here's hoping.

****ANOTHER UPDATE******
I put the carb back in the car checked all connetions it was all fine. Turned key car started first time, ran for 20 seconds then quit. My friend then tried turning the car over, NOTHING coming from the injector. As soon as i removed the injector there was plenty of fuel. So, this leaves me with two trails of thought, either the injector itself has failed OR the ecu is not sending commands to it. Ive brought the injector home, and at the moment it is having a nice bath in injector cleaner, (neat) if its something else im totally lost. Ive had a qoute for a new injector Bosch spi injector, £108 (n) i aint paying that. ANY idea's anyone???

Tried resetting the ECU?

Yes, on more than one occasion. Fiat NEVER told me there was a relay which controlled the injector. I have a feeling thats the one thats kaput, i only found this relay after reading the hayes manual, for the umpteenth time. Its in the revised section at the back. :bang:

it still wont fire!!!!! :cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Complete fuel injection (ecu, sensors etc) is powered over a relay. Injector is controlled by transistor in ECU, not by relay. There is another relay for fuel pump and lambda sensor heating.

There is a resistor connected in series with injector. Resistor is located behind right front headlight.

Are you sure that fuel pump is working OK?

fuel pump working perfectly...

I know with my uno fire it would cut out and drop to three cylinders alot and get real hard to start. Sounds almost the same sort of problem. Turned out with mine when you pull the distributor apart there is a pick up thing that the vacuum advance arm is connected to and the little module thing on the out side of the distributor. The wires that feed that pickup break down because of ozone created inside the distributor. My wires had no insulation on them and were arcing between them. Apparently it is real common on unos. I replaced mine and haven't had a problem since.

Ive looked and checked all wiring, its fine, no arcing, I have noticed plugs 2,3 4 arcing over the engine block. So all HT leads are being replaced! I have decided (with the help of a friend) that i am replacing, the carb, fuel injector, and the three relays.
Everything else, coil, spark plugs, ecu unit on dizzy system, has already been replaced new. So its got to be something really simple. I hope
