Have you got a haynes manual? i'm guessing your gonna need to take it apart and clean the jet as it sounds like it's blocked :S
did you drive the car frequently before this started happening or was it stood for a while?
Dan
Have a look at page 187 on the following document:
http://www.hyperloophoop.com/Uno_HY_Manual.pdf
It could be on there...
Any chance you can getyour hands on some redex fuel line/ injector cleaner from the nearest petrol station.
If you can get the car started with all the pipes connected up, take the air filter unit off so you are looking at the carb itself. Using the throttle cable to make sure the car doesnt stall, slowly pour the contents of the redex bottle directly into the hole. This'll give the carb a good clean out.
In fact, I'd pour one in the tank for the fuel lines and injectors, and one straight into the carb for that.
Don't worry about the cat convertor, redex is fine for it (it says this explicitly on the label).
Yeah i have that manualBut the only way i can get the car to start is to pour petrol directly into the carb, and of course the car will run for as long as it takes for the petrol to be used. After that nothing. It seems the injector is blocked, assuming the injector is the big white thing on top of the hole. Just checked page 187 as you suggested but i have an SPI system, so i assume its the same one, will my carb have a fuel filter built into it?? That i didnt check i wasnt aware it had one!
i wont be stripping the carb down just yet, i need to get the car home first.
In fact though im wondering if it is this.... same intermittant problem, since the day i bought it. Could the big ecu under the dash be at fault?? Im only wondering because if it is the carb being blocked in someway that the blockage clears after being turned over a few times, then another, then another. Im not 100% sure.

Got a headache? Take painkillers. Want a headache? Get a fiat!![]()
Tried resetting the ECU?
Yes, on more than one occasion. Fiat NEVER told me there was a relay which controlled the injector. I have a feeling thats the one thats kaput, i only found this relay after reading the hayes manual, for the umpteenth time. Its in the revised section at the back. :bang:
Complete fuel injection (ecu, sensors etc) is powered over a relay. Injector is controlled by transistor in ECU, not by relay. There is another relay for fuel pump and lambda sensor heating.
There is a resistor connected in series with injector. Resistor is located behind right front headlight.
Are you sure that fuel pump is working OK?
I know with my uno fire it would cut out and drop to three cylinders alot and get real hard to start. Sounds almost the same sort of problem. Turned out with mine when you pull the distributor apart there is a pick up thing that the vacuum advance arm is connected to and the little module thing on the out side of the distributor. The wires that feed that pickup break down because of ozone created inside the distributor. My wires had no insulation on them and were arcing between them. Apparently it is real common on unos. I replaced mine and haven't had a problem since.
