Unknown insurance company

My insurance was due on my van early may. I've not had a renewal invitation.
Now I know that the invitation would say "don't worry, we'll just take your money"
I always shop around and get quidco cashback so wouldn't normally let that happen. However this year, because I have had no reminder I totally forgot about it.
I've checked my accounts and no money has gone, but on checking the askmid site it says I am insured.
I can't for the life of me remember which company I insured the van with in may 2012.

Anyone know how I can find out?

A few thoughts.
Will last year's bank statement show where the money went last year?

Surely you must have an insurance certificate somewhere? Unless it was all via email, have you got the old email.

Does the askmid site have a phone number?

Might the local police station tell you from there computer? Don't drive the van there, in case it is not insured, but take evidence it is yours.

As above, check bank statement, or use askmid, they'll provide all nuance details for a vehicle (company, policy number etc) for a small cost (£3.99 iirc).

Done that. Aviva is the result

Thanks a lot. I'll call them later and see how the hell they charged me. Most probably on a credit card that I no longer use

Second edit:
called aviva, the policy number is wrong and they don't have records of either my reg number or me.
So, knowing that quotemehappy is part of aviva and my Panda is insured through them I logged on to my account.
The policy numbers were the same format.

I have now logged on with a different email and found that the van is insured with them under the another email address which I can no longer access, hence the no contact from them
as they are strictly an internet only insurer. They took £249 from me on 10 may (which is pretty cheap I'm glad to say, cheaper than last year which is not normally the case)

All sorted, job done. Thanks MEP, that suggestion of askmid paid service has paid dividends.

Great, out of interest having never used the paid service but knowing its there if needed, what information exactly does it give you?

Is it just the name of the insurer and policy number, or is it also the name of the insured etc

Name of insurer
Claims contact details (name, address and telephone number of the claims dept

It gives no address of the insured or even their name.
