Hi. I have a 2000 Fiat uylsse 1.9td. It has problems when starting. Sometimes it starts first time and other times it can take 3 or 4 goes. The glow plugs have been checked and are fine but ive noticed when i turn the key to activate heater plugs, The rev counter goes haywire and thats when it doesn't start. When I turn the key to switch off the battery, stop and oil lights flash. When I disconnect the battery for about 30 seconds the car starts first time.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? Any help would be apprieciated.

Bad earth?
Clean up lead from battery to gearbox. Battery to body. Check battery connector is not broken, mine was!

Sounds logical, the pre heaters will draw a lot of current & if they cant due to a poor ground they wont heat up the cylinders enough... I agree... remove all the major earth points, clean both contact sides back to shiny metal, re-fit and protect with a copper based grease, see if it helps, low cost fix if it does the trick (y)
