Andy ideas for this one ??? as its got the mechanic confused.:bang:
On Saturday car ran great, then on sunday evening didnt want to start, would turn but not fire. Finally went to a garage (towed in), they ran diagnostic, nothing came up, except one (see below), they checked all fuses and there fine also glow plugs, diesel pump all ok.
On diagnostic it came up with crankshaft out of line ?
Would this stop the engine from firing up IE WOULD THE ECU STOP THE ENGINE FROM FIRING BUT ALLOW IT TO CRANK OVER, as they have said it wouldnt as theres 2 relays for this and if one fails then it should still run on the other (confused so am I)
Battery had to be taken of, so it could be charged up, could this have messed the ecu up?.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated many thanks

With my limited knowledge of the JTD engine, I think that the crank sensor giving a dodgy reading would certainly stop it firing.
I think that sounds entirely possible and very logical.

Thanks Stu, Im thinking on the same lines, so will give garage a call and ask them to change it, not sure how much they are thou lol, think thats my christmas present, will let you know what happens, wont be till after christmas thou .

Done a bit more investigating online for this problem and they all seem to say that if sensor fails then engine wont start, but if engine is running when it fails it will carry on running ok till engine is turned of.
Does anyone know roughly where this crankshaft sensor is located, so I can tell the mechanic ???? many thanks

Well heard from garage, new sensor from fiat fitted, still showing fault and just turning over without starting, garage has now suggested getting it to a fiat dealer, so they can run there own diagnostic, so £230 so far and still not running

 Does the center display give you any clue? You dont have engine immobilser faults coming up? The lights above the steering wheel coming up ok? The reds first(oil bat) then yellow(going out) engine managment system glow plug etc? Can you hear the fuel pump when you lock and unlock ticking 3or4 times to prime system b4 you turn over? tried re marry key to ignition? Good luck

Hi jarred, yea pump etc is fine, all the lites go out including glow plug, we know its gone into power save mode as indicators dont work but hazards do, and fiat informed me thats one of the things it does. I think thats what fiat are going to have a look at, all the security on it and see if they can find anymore faults, thankfully I still have the credit card type key code, so that wont take them to long i hope, will wait and see what they come up with monday and i will post it, hopefully its not the ecu

Heard from fiat today, they believe the cambelt had slipped, so are now stripping down, to see what damage has been caused, have to admit, Im not sure really if there will be a lot of damage, as said before car ran perfectly the day before and it didnt want to start the next day, all it does is turn, has anyone else had a cambelt slip without it actually starting??

hi andy
i had the same problem and it turned out to be a faulty fuse board have a look at my posting ! paul

hi, well found out the rockers have had it, they are not sure about injectors etc, so a minimum of £1000 so far, anyone know if injectors would have gone as well, as really dont want to spend anymore, already given the dealer i got the car from a mouthfull, as they informed me before car was bought that cambelt had been replaced, now waiting for a call back from them, but not holding my breath

Thought I would update this, have found a engine refurb company in gloucester, who are picking car up this week, to either replace engine/or refurb, replace injectors and all seals, new cambelt kit, and any other required works on engine, they also pick it up and drop it of when done all for £1950 and the price is guaranteed not to rise, they also put a 12 month engine warranty or 20000km which ever is sooner. will post back and let you know what its like when i get it back which they have said will be a week friday for definate, but might be earlier, but obviously the weather will have something to say about it

:) Normal problem is getting the injectors out! But sounds like a good price to me and nice that its fixed. Iam still trying to find a mechanic to replace my clutch for the right money with no hidden "extras" once its in the garage. If you know what i mean.

Car arrives tomorrow, they have said it runs like new, cant wait, as being without a car for this long is crazy here lol. They have told me that engine has been all cleaned etc, new cambelt kit put on, injectors and glow plugs and the price is actually lower than what they guaranteed it for, its £1915, which I think is really good as it also included the towing there and back which is approx 300 miles each way, will post there number if anyone else is interested, as they do all different types of engines, however unlike some places, they only do it if they have that engine in stock.

Jarred
Did you manage to find a garage for your clutch in the end ?

:bang:Well on Monday booked it in for three weeks time (school Hols). So we can do without the car. Found a local garage seems to know what they are doing and deals only in clutches brakes gearboxes for a fixed price place is busy and booked up for a week and you can see the workshop and talk to the mechanics The type of garage I like!
Then just as every thing was sorted the slight slipping ulysse clutch gave out on tuesday.....So now... No car. Its in the garage but cant be started properly till My booking in a good weeks time.... But the garage mechanic has started stripping bits out of the way when he has time (I know this as i can go down there and see it sitting in the corner of the garage with bits taken off) Without any problems even get offered a tea. So will update on how it goes

:D I GOT MY BUS BACK.....I have a new clutch and it changes gears like a dream. The garage started it Wed finished Thur road tested it and let me have it back Fri Morning Fixed price as quoted popped in and saw it all in pieces on Wed and shown all the old and new parts (and got a cup of tea).As expected Dual Mass Flywheel Nice expensive one. But at least now I can pull away without the clutch slipping

Hi Jared, thats good news, yes the dmf is the expensive bit lol
