General Ulysee or Galaxy?

General Ulysee or Galaxy?

Hi,

I will have a quick look around again on the 'net. Think it may have been Centurion, but will hyperlink once I find it. Granted, not as neat as the fitted version, but if that means a 2.2JTD Six speed and Connect +, I know which option I would go for now.

Suggest to the kids they buy the DVD with their pocket money? Early Christmas present?

Glad you liked the jpegs of + system - the full screen mode only came in on last update; just awesome.

Oh, and another thing, two of us are hopefully taking our Ulysses over to Angel Tuning; we are looking at an ecu remap. I know it adds an extra 35bhp to the 2.0JTD, possibly a bit more on the 2.2JTD.

Then you can ask your mate with his Galaxy 130PS for a race!

Hi,

Be careful if you have a remap of the ECU as it invalidates the car warranty if they are able to see that you have had it done. You also need to tell your insurance that the car has been modified as well.

I was thinking about it myself, but I am a bit worried about the warranty issue.

Also they must make a fortune on in car DVD systems, those screens cost about £135 each for a very high quality NEC TFT. A decent 12V DVD player is about £200. There must be a lot of profit in it somewhere.

It may be worth trying to buy the kit yourself and getting it fitted somewhere.

Hi,

Cheers for that advice - how will Fiat know that it has been done, though? Does examiner/Diag2000 give them that information? Again, they need a map to compare it against, and if there is only one map active, can't see it being a major problem. Likewise with insurance!

"Speed at time of accident, Mr Ash" [or Mrs!?] "Er, actually, outside range of speedo, so couldn't tell!" Hmmmm.

If it goes pear shaped, pay £50 to have original map installed before a major warranty claim!!!

Stu

Ah, the usual - you cant have that done, it invalidates the warranty quote lol.

We had a customer who we took to 195 from 150bhp, he cracked his sump because he also put aftermarket lower suspension on. The engine was replaced under warranty - no questions asked about the suspension or the engine map.

If you go hopping and skipping along to your dealer telling them about what you had done then they may be reluctant. However, the only dealer in the UK that has the ability to read the data is Wilson Purvis in Sussex, other than that the only time they will be able to tell is when they drive it obviously. The car is serviced as per normal.

If there was any concern prior to any warranty work and you wanted to bring the car to us, we would put your original map back on FOC and remap it afterwards - simple as that!

As for inusrance, the same applies. We DO NOT advise that you dont tell the insurance company, but to say it has been modified means they need to compare it with the original using the same equipment. Virtually impossible.

With a re-map we do not change any components, which is where it differes over "chipping" and those aftermarket boxes.

Hi,

Excellent, can you do my 2.0l petrol auto eleganza (2003) and I will keep quiet about it. It needs just a little more power for overtaking on the motorway.

It varies per vehicle, and we do not disclose what people pay due to customer confidentiality. If you wanted a quote for your vehicle please contact us directly, not via a forum.

Don't worry, didn't take offence, maybe a gate post or two....

Stu (or anyone) do you find the ConnectNav+ useful (as in more than the standard version) mainly because you do a lot of driving to places difficult to find, or is there more to it than that?

Hi,

Well, only experienced normal Nav on test drive - personally, I didn't like the dash layout, and preferred the Nav + in the brochure.

As Poggy rightly said, both options still have the guidance waypoints in view, and voice commands. BUT I do like to see what is ahead at all times, with or without a destination programmed. The full colour zooming map makes it so clear, and now even gives road numbers, as well as places of interest, as you drive about. Also, I like to have map orientated the way the vehicle is pointing [i.e. not stuck to north].

Apart from that, the whole screen layout is lovely for all the other options on there [CD, Radio, Trip, Audio/AV] - that is prob not worth the price alone, mind. Plus ports in glovebox can be used to look at camcorders, digicams, DVDs, on the screen!

It is a pity dealers don't try and demonstrate all this; they still have a total lack of understanding.

apologies if this appears twice, but I posted last night and it's dissapeared! must have caught the webserver at backup time..
Bear with me on this...a question..
Not knowing which connections it has in the glovebox, can you connect a DVD player audio output to it which will make the sound come out throught the car speakers? I was then thinking of running a cable from the video output of the DVD to a seperate screen mounted somewhere for the back seaters. Might be annoying having to listen to the soundtrack of the film for the front seaters, but an idea nevertheless.
Also, what then happens to the audio output for the SatNav?

I do a lot of driving and find the Nav+ invaluable. I can't however compare to the Nav, but one of the things I find extremely useful (and this has been touched on with another posting) is the big screen map view, as it helps you come up with quick alternatives if the route you are on becomes a bad option (roadworks, accidents, holdups), and once you've made a diversion, the automated directions (if you're on a route the NAV+ has worked out) will adjust.

Even if I'm going to somewhere that I know a route to, I'll turn the guidance on anyway as it then helps me with alternatives should some nutter have crashed on the M40 and caused it to be closed (as seems to have happened all too frequently just lately).

I've also given lifts to people who have other cars and nav systems, and they've all said that it's the clearest screen they've seen.

If I had to choose between integrated DVD or Nav+, I would (and did) choose Nav+.

There are 3 connections in the gloxebox, namely left and right audio plus video, using standard A/V leads.

I will try your suggestion sometime over weekend, and just plug audio in from a camcorder and see what happens. In theory, the sat nav voice should over-ride, like it does for CD/Radio. BUT I presume you have to be in screen mode for audio, which means you are left with a blank screen - will confirm what happens if you press mode button back to, say, map mode!

Hi,

Apparently there has been a lot of discussion on the Eurovan forum about the phono audio sockets. It seems that at the moment you can't use the audio inputs as there is no way to select it as an input. I think the alternative is to use the CD changer audio inputs and trick the RT3 into thinking it is playing a CD. If you have a look at the eurovan forum, there is more info.

I think it will only be a matter of time before the phono audio inputs are activated, probably in the next software version.

One alternative is to use a FM RF feed for the DVD player and tune the RT3 unit into that.

Andy

Thanks for all the help. Will have a look over the Eurovan forum to see what that's all about. Great to have someone to talk to on all this though!
