Hi Fellow Qubist,

Will need to replace my tyres early next year, done 20 odd thousand. Any suggestions as to which brand last longest, allowing for the fact that Qubo/Fiorino are known to be a bit heavy on tyre wear ??

Cheers Qube O. (y)(y)

... Any suggestions ...

I’d suggest keeping to the mid-range envelope – as attempting to single-out longevity as a priority attribute will lead you towards the extremes. Either the elite & expensive end (e.g. Michelin) – or the budget end, that fail on every attribute other than longevity & price. Simply, you could end-up with a cheap Chinese tyre that’ll give above average longevity – but will be disappointing (& maybe dangerous) on other attributes.

What size/load/speed/brand/model are you on now?

Hi Caravadossi,
Thanks for that, rears are the original Bridgestone, and the front were replaced about 18 month ago with Primewells, these really work well, but are no where near as long lasting as I would like, about 6K, though they still have 2-3 mil of tread on them.

Cheers Qube O.

Hi Qubo,
I had to change my original Bridgestones in June at just over 17000m.

Due to front wheel mis-alignment, tyres had scrubbed on the inside edge but there was still 2-3mm left on the rest of the tyres. I swapped front to back at 12000m when they were about half-worn but didn't notice uneven wear, neither was it pointed out at first or second service.

I fitted Avon ZV5 (195/55VR16 as original size) all round mainly because they had good revues (Fuel Eff "C", Wet Grip "C" and noise 71Db so mid-range) and they're made in the UK. I had LTRAK laser wheel alignment done at the time of fitting (cost £15), they made the necessary adjustments and asked me to return in 4 weeks for a re-check - all ok. Total cost for 4 tyres was £320 including valve, balance, disposal, tracking and VAT.

I'm very pleased with the performance and they're wearing well. I've done over 4000m and tyres are showing an even wear of about 1mm.

Cheers, (why can't I add smilies?)

... Rears, original Bridgestone Turanza ER300 195/55 R16 87H. Fronts, Primewell PS880 195/55/R16 87V ...

Another interesting FIAT sizing – where you can end up paying more for 195/55R16 than a reasonable 205/55R16.

We have a SEAT Exeo (aka Audi A4 B7) out of the Martorell (nr Barcelona) plant & perhaps understandably the OE tyre is the ER300 205/55R16 91V out of the Bridgestone Burgos (nr Bilbao) plant. The ER300 is a touring tyre with UTQG rating 320 A A. I don’t know the treadwear rating for the Avon ZV5 – but it’s a UHP tyre, & longevity isn’t a strong feature of UHP tyres.

Yes I agree, but they do have insurers to pass this kind of thing onto....insured against 3rd party public claims. Only problem is, eventually the insure company will increase the premium because of all the claims, then the local councils pass that back to us in the way of increased council tax. Council tax rises should be outlawed, they should loose some of there 'highly' paid back office staff...................or loose councillors, thats even better....

Hi Qubist & Fiorinist all, Have just changed the tyres, gone for Michelin Energy Savers.......time will tell if it was a good choice. I rang around a dozen local tyre places, and whilst most were within £25 per corner there were some crazy prices. National T wanted for the 4 tyres and tracking £540..........jokers. I got them for £89 a corner plus £25 for the tracking, which was out.......thank you to our local councillors for all the pot holes and speed humps, perhaps I should ask them to contribute............
Have fun, Qube O.
