can somone please tell me what tyres im suposed to have on my k reg 1992 1.6 sx tipo?

atm it has 165/70R13 79H

the manual says 165/70R13 78S but my car was made the year after the manual (its one of the ones that was made for like 6 months in 1992 b4 they started calling it the dgt)

but kwik fit says it should have 165/70T13

please help cos i need the tracking done asap cos im now running on slicks on the outer edge of the N/S/F tyre.

All these are 13" 70% profile 165 tyres. The 78 and 79 S are not size related I dont think.

The number is a weight index, not to be worried about
The letter is the speed rating, not to be worried about either, it will be faster than a Tipo can go :D

DGT's were out in 1989, I have one and it should have 165/70/13.

175 / 65 x 13 is a good alternative size for these cars, S or T rated.
My car was equipped with 165/70-13 T, I then put 175/65-13 T and now I have 185-55/14 H.
Believe it or not I have gone with 121 mph with a 1.4 i.e Tipo and T tyres have a 118 mph limit. H from the other hand have a 130 mph limit.

Tyre speed ratings are applied with safety in mind, so a few mph over limit won't be a problem.
If your car was originally fitted with 70 profile tyres, don't forget the speedo will over-read slightly with 65s fitted and even more with 60s on, so your 121 mph was probably nearer to 118, possibly less.
Reducing the diameter of a wheel means that it rotates more often.

165/70-13: diameter 561.2 mm
175/65-13: diameter 557.7 mm (-0.6% speedo 100mph, actual 99.4mph)
185/55-14: diameter 559.1 mm (-0.4% speedo 100mph, actual 99.6mph)

As you can see thw differences are minimal.

I'd be looking for a set of 14" fiat rims (bravo/brava) and fitting 185/60R14 tyres.

They're similar size overall, will handle better being lower profile, and cost a whole lot less as they're a very popular size.

Or stuff it all and fit alloys.
