... or 'boiling the frog' as it is often called.

This is a typical case of the psyops currently taking place in the UK.
In the below link, it says they this is applicable to Northern Ireland, but in reality all cars for the EU market will have this technology included.

Yet again it will be passed as 'it's all for your own safety' and the 'it's all for you' mantra comes into play over and over again.

The UK has some of the safest roads in the world,

Only some though , not sure they're near me  ;)

They'll be disabled by people who want to speed, just like people who want to have more power in the car by remapping, or doing a EGR, DPF delete, disabling SS or removing Vmax from a car..

It does rather depend how it's implemented.

A version of this system has been fitted to most new cars since 2017 if not earlier.

Stellantis cars i.e. new Panda there are 2 large buttons on the center console viewable in this picture.

Hold the one on the left for 3 seconds good bye speed limit assist click the one on the right goodbye lane assist. Fulfils the letter if not the spirit of the law... manufacturers know these systems are **** but if you want to sell a new car they are required.

The 2016 Toyota has a version of both GPS and camera based speed assist..amusingly there's been occasions when both are wrong at the same time despite it being fully updated.

Yes, you can disable it for now, but the next incremental change will be that you can't.
This is how the western world is going. Slow little changes that nobody cares about, till suddenly you do.
Microsoft installing TPM, and allowing it to be disabled, till later when all that stops and they are in control of every program you install on your PC.

You literally couldn't fit it without a disable option the GPS databases are not updated often enough and don't account for temporary changes and the state of signage is such that the camera based systems are regularly wrong as well picking up signs on back of trucks etc.

At best it's imperfect...

There's been cases of the VW variant of this system setting adaptive cruise to 100mph..

If you compare the advance in avionics over the years, it hasn't stopped them adding features that actually contribute to crashes. Mention no names.

There are far more cars than planes even a 0.1% increase in crashes is thousands more crashes.

For the same reason as 100% self driving cars will never actually arrive these will have to have an over ride.
