Turbo vs N/A

Turbo vs N/A

Most manufaturers are moving towards turbo charging there engines now as it means they can down size in capacity, get an increase in torque and similar or improved power results, but most importantly in todays climate get lower emissions and higher MPG.

Ferrari have been caught testing IIRC 3.5L V8 turbo's for next generation of cars, Porsche is rumoured to be offering VAG sourced (seeing as they are same company now) 4 pot turbo charged engines in Boxsters and Caymens etc

Yes the S2000 is a cool car with a great engine, but the engine can no longer meet Euro emission targets and will be killed off when S2000 production ends. As all manufacturers have to now meet lower emission average target over whole range there has to be a rethink of whats going to happen in engines.

Honda's VTEC's may well be one that falls like Toyota's 1.8L VVTI 190bhp engine already has I think. YOu only have to look at how high the CO2 is from higher revving engines to see its not oing to work unless they can come up withe something different. Maybe like the Fiat multi-air system which can not only offer everything from 1mm to 9mm of lift, but open valves twice in one stroke working in effect like EGR, all very clever and beyond my knowledge.

VAG CEO even came out last week and said within 10 years small capacity i.e upto 2L diesel engines will give way to smaller capacity turbo charged petrol engines that offer weight saving packaging savings by being smaller, improved economy and performance advantages, plus offer better driver involvent.

Interesting times for engine design.

But you pay an extra £10,000 in the first place ;)

Rock solid build quality, reliability, practicality, residual costs and an excellent dealer network is worth paying for - the GTi is the benchmark to which all hot hatches must strive to compete against.

The Stilo was good but let me down and I needed all of the above things from a car - Fiat/Alfa don't have anything of interest currently and there was nothing to rival the GTi at the time of purchase. :)

Style and passion mean very little on the back of an AA truck tbh.

Now back on topic :p TFSi :slayer:

I'm very biased, owning an uno turbo, but i have been in quick NA cars, and to me they're not the same.

I love the sound of the boost building - its why i think god gave me ears.

My uno has, or will have (it drives now, but a couple of parts mentioned are replacements yet to be fitted) a big turbo, external wastegate on a tubular manifold and a 2.5" exhaust system - to me nothing short of ten high street honey's climaxing in my bedroom sounds nicer, other than a host of other turbo's cars, women and my car door closing after i jump in at 5pm on a friday!

what a load of ********.

rock solid build quality - not far ahead at all from most manufacturers nowadays, tbh.
dealer network - yeah fine, but if anything goes wrong then it costs a fortune outside of warrenty.

Fiats dont break down that often, get with the plot!

aside from that, yeah id much rather a new/last shape golf GTI than anything that fiat have to offer at the minute, but you have to admit theres a huge premium for it all.

and id much rather a 180bhp 1.4 with a single VVT turbo than the 170bhp twin-charged VW engine - too complicated for my liking.

the new Golf's build quality is awesome, it really is- much better than the outgoing models!

oh and compound charging ftw

Thats your opinion and your welcome to it - I simply speak from my own experience.

Had my Stilo for 3 years no MAJOR problems, spent stupid money on her, spent time, effort, love etc then it became a very unreliable car, broke down on me and was worth nothing but sentimental value at the end - hence why I got rid and bought the VW.

I've also had Fiats since 1998 and when looking for a replacement for the Stilo Fiat just weren't offering anything to rival the GTi.

Vw do a TSi engine which is both super and turbocharged taking benefits from both kinds of charging. The TFSi engine found in the Gti is a turbo only.

I've just been to go check someones at work, he has the 1.4 and it says TFSi on the back? eh?

EDIT: although what you have said does make more sense seen as the GTi engine is just a turbo variant of the FSi 2.0 in the GT?

im mega confused, have VW badged it up for fun!?
