Technical Turbo Panda Project

Technical Turbo Panda Project

Ahhh yes. Quite emotionally disturbing really.

The engine is still in the Panda. I feel like I'd rather die than take it out.

To be honest though, I feel like I had a lot of enjoyment from the actual building of the engine. Possibly even more than I would get from actually driving it. It was a character building experience to take, for more of a better phrase, a box of assorted bits, and turn them into something great.

You'll be happy to hear this though.

The Panda is NOT getting scrapped or sold.

I've just got it a new powerplant....the clue is, it has no pistons :)

See, as much as i loved that engine, it was always in the back of my mind that it wasnt ever going to be 'high performance' per say. Sure it would have been pretty quick but ultimately it has a cast block, reverse flow head and only 8 valves. Pretty outdated designs. But yeah mazda rotary. If you see one out of an engine you'll see why. The whole engine is tiny, weighs just 85 kilos and packs pretty serious punch. Im getting new apex seals for my own rx8, then i'll get another low compression engine cheap and see how it goes :)

So will you be going rwd too?

There was a guy building RX7 track day cars where I had my workshop in Wiltshire, he had one car producing 800bhp! I was looking at his engines and thinking the same as you Alex, and the electronics, he informed me, was more straightforward to adapt.

Yeah I will be using the old favourite Sierra running gear which I acquired from a guy who was breaking his kit-car.

I think though, to be honest, my problem is I'm too impulsive. I mean atm I have got 4 cars. NONE of them are roadworthy and all in various states of modification and ****s just getting out of control!!

Mk1 golf with half a VR6 engine conversion
Panda with half a turbo engine
RX8 with a dead engine
Focus with half the rear end chopped off
Then we'll not even start with the motorbikes...

I'm trying to consolodate all my purchases, cut out the ones that aren't going to be as good or as enjoyable as the others and hopefully I should come out of it with some money (probably a lot less than I've put into these things!) and more importantly, some space.

Its a bit annoying as you start with the best intentions, but I have a tendancy to buy anything if its the right price so the projects just stockpile!

So annoying though as I want my Golf for the VW scene i.e bugjam, dubfest. My Panda for the Fiat/Italien scene and my RX8 for the Jap/high performance scene. Ideally I'd like to drive them all at the same time, too! hahaha

Think I need therapy!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

Tell me about it! :eek::p

Forgive the thread resurrection. The RX8 engine is nowhere near as good (for tuning at least) as the older Effini or even 13b engines.

I'm looking for turbo bits for my Panda now as the supercharging idea as fallen a little flat. Rotary engines love superchargers though. The progressive boost form a supercharger suits the smooth power delivery of the engine a lot better than a single or even sequential turbo set up.

Sorry I know little about Foci but the Golf sounds interesting.
