General turbo engine bay tidy up!!

lol, i think shiny things look naff - hence why i've never bothered polishing any bits in my engine bay.

i also wouldn't wrap an iron manifold either (or a stainless one for that matter either!)

Powder coat won't last 5 minutes on an engine manifold, let alone a turbo one. It's either epoxy or polyester melted on. The mani will just melt it off!

There are ceramic treatments available which should be up to the job and be tougher/better than wrapping.

For the cam cover, painting seems to bite the dust pretty quickly on turbos due to all the pipes rubbing on it. I wonder if they anodise well?

Hi there

I also did a little clean up in the engine bay :)

also to settle the discussion on the shiny bits and painted bits,,,i like the idea of both it seems everyones engine pics ave seen look fantastic and each has put his own taste into it (y)
ill probably paint the ECU cover and ad shiny bits to it like the anodised bolts i mensioned before, then ive got a bit of both :)
also why woudnt you recommend not wrapping the manifold stainless or cast???? alot of high performance cars do it,especially with the fact that the manifold and turbo kick out alot of unwanted heat into the engine bay
also the wrap is surposed to increase velocity of the gasses traveling through the exhaust.
cheers

My reasons:

It attracts water
It'll look mucky very soon
It can cause manifolds to crack
It invalidates guarantees on many manifolds

Ceramic coating (which, I think, Tricker has) has all the advantages, none of the disadvantages.

cheers (y) well that makes sence id be interseted in the cermic coating then, i like things to be done properly :) and i guess this would look nice under the bonnet

thanks

i wrapped mine by hand lol, my skins hard :\

i give up on tidying angine bay, my rocker cover is powercoted just wipes clean, most other bits are either black rubber, black silicon or aluminium, although i have a water leak at the mo but not bothered about it till it runs lol

keeping people updated with the engine work as i go along here is the latest picture of the engine, ive fitted a new carbon fibre airfilter which came with a large cool air feed pipe which isnt fitted at the moment but i intend to take the feed from either the front bumper or from a subtle bonnet vent :)
also fitted the new splitfire twin core 8.8mm H/T leads and heat wrapped the induction pipe from the the compressor housing to the air filter as it runs past the hot engine and coolant pipes!
tomorow the anodised blue bolts are going on the camcover and ECU which looked great on my N/A,,,,,so there getting swapped to the turbo and possibly have a go at the ECU to see how that can be cleaned up ;)

on the down side the engine is making a few strange smells ranging from a coolant smell (although three aernt any leaks!) and a smell of oil burning after breif moments of ecceleration,,,,,,the car does not seem to have used any! oil since i serviced it but the head will hopefully be coming of soon so im hoping the turbo oil seal isnt on its way!! and that it may just be stem seals
