Ok, please could I ask for the consensus regarding my turbo problem?

I have a Ducato 15 (2006) with a 2.3 jtd engine, done about 20,000 miles. 4 years ago it began chucking out smoke when slowing down after a run.
I had visited several garages over this time asking specifically to check injectors and turbo only to be told "won't be those mate you haven't done enough miles"
Well finally the latest garage actually looked at the turbo and found swarf in it.
My question is: is it worth me replacing the turbo, or is the engine likely to be knackered? Apart from smoke as above it runs perfectly smoothly.

Many thanks in advance

Hi. I would just replace the turbo if the engine seems o.k.,but keep in mind it’s not just a matter of strapping on the turbo, where did the swarf come from is there more hanging around inside the engine? I would personally have the sump and pick up off for a good clean and inspection and a new oil feed pipe.

It would be a shame to fit a new turbo and the same thing happens, make sure you read the warranty on the new turbo carefully, some won’t be covered if not professionally fitted and some expect proof of 5,000 mile oil changes in case of a warranty claim.

Thanks: that sounds sensible. I'll get hold of a new turbo and have it professionally fitted and the sump checked.
