There are seperate sections on the site to talk about ICE, Bodywork, Satellite Navigation, Security etc. but there's no specific section for those that like to tune/modify their cars to swop idea's, info and show off their creations. I know many on here(myself included) consider Blue Neons and dustbin sized exhaust pipes a waste of time but many others like these things so how about we give them an area to play in, might visit it myself if some serious tuners use the area(remaps, turbo upgrades etc.). Many modifications are universal and not model specific so I think a Tuning & Modifying section would be benificial to like minded members.

Do you think the site should have a Tuning & Modifying section.

1. Yes
2. No
3. Don't Care.

Hmmm - this is why we had issues before.

Tuning is just too ambiguous a word.

For me, tuning is about working on the engine - nothing to do with anything else.

mainly things that could be done your self to improve the performance and handling, some body kits designed for reducing drag could also be classed as tuning, but there isn't many of them for us, but if some one was to discus making such a kit it would be tuning.

c&p
Car tuning is related to auto racing, although most performance cars never compete. Rather, they are built for the pleasure of owning and driving such a vehicle. Exterior modifications include changing the aerodynamic characteristics of the vehicle via side skirts, front and rear bumpers, spoilers, splitters, air vents and light weight wheels.

so discussions on what wheels weigh less would be tuning, but ones on what wheels look best stay in styling, same with body kits that are for looks, they stay in styling. what wheels fit goes in tech.
discussions on air vents to let cold air in or hot air out would be tuning, but if they are just for making it look sporty then they go in styling

so what about engine swaps?
given we have had 2 reports from a Tuning protagisinst saying they are not tuining.
why not make a list of everything that is tuning
then we can see what people think

its easy, is it being done to improve the performance and/or handling if yes its tuning

37 people voted yes, is there not at lest 1 of them people who would be good to be made staff and put to work telling the rest of the team what would be nice to have in the tuning section

If your refering to the 2 threads I reported you may want to add that the OP's contained photoshopped pics of engine swops, not actual engine swops. :p

It's really not as simple as that though - a list would really be appreciated, just so we get this 100% right.

For example. why did you post a brakes upgrade thread in Tech Talk rather than Tuning?

use the report button folks
thats what its there for

it would have been more simple the other way, have and empty section to start with an not all the prefixes from section showing up becase a lot of them are wrong anyway.
but have people post in it what they wanted with the option to prefix it to model if they wanted.
then move a few intresting reads from each section to get it going

so if someone votes in a poll you agree with
they get made staff?
surely its not hard for you to define tuning criteria
improve performance? well fitting better quality brake pads improves their performance. so thats tuning?
you said fitting an exhaust isnt but it can improve performance

Prefixes can be quickly and easily rectified, don't worry about that.

As soon as we have an exact guideline to follow, it will be posted as a sticky at the top - then we'll all know what should be where.

You are forgetting we had a Tuning forum before, no one knew what to put in it and it became a free for all.

Hence working it out first.

Then the MOD was to blame for not moderating it properly.

"if its OEM or equivalent its not tuning", is a good rule of thumb plus a little common sence. I'm sure the tuners using the new Tuning forum will be only to happy to help out by reporting threads too.

tiresome
the original poster is to blame if you feel the need to have someone to blame
still waiting on you providing input with a list
"the tuners" dont seem very vocal on this thread
all we are asking is for a list of what is generally considered tuning.
Dave knows fne well its been a point of contention before
its easy to snipe but not so easy to provide answers

Have to agree, if we want to try and make this work then tuning posts should be restricted to engine performance enhancements and things like brakes/suspension should be listed under modifications, at least for the time being, to give Ben a chance to get his head around this.

Maybe a poll at a later date to get opinions from the tuning afficiandos about whether other modifications should be introduced to the tuning sub-forum.

dave don't even remember an old tuning section being here for more than a few days before ben thought prefixes would be better.
we did have a mod who was really into tuning and really knew his stuff but was so disgusted when he see the way the forum was run he don't even post any more
