Hi All,
I've searched the forums (these and others), and I can't find anything to help.
My crew and I recently took over operations of a food truck, a 1991 Fiat Ducato 14 with a manual transmission. We moved it to its new home today with no problems, but while we were parking, the tranny started making funny noises, and then it wouldn't stay in 1st. It just slipped back into neutral. Then, when I released the clutch, the engine stalled. We did some experimenting and found out that when we left it in neutral and "put it in gear", it went backwards.
The upshot is that my truck now thinks it's in reverse when it's in neutral, and won't stay in any other gears. I imagine it's a problem with the linkage, but I have no idea how to check that or what to do about it. Since the truck is so old, I really don't want to put too much money into it. I'm really hoping I'm missing an easy fix?
Thanks all!
Isaac
