Hi. Like busses, loads of problems have hit my van at the same time.
It's a 2014 3.0 180hp. It starts great from cold, runs beautifully, good fuel consumption, no smoke, even running, but is hard to start when warm or hot. Popping and spluttering, sometimes just turning without firing, sometimes just a quick splutter and then the starter motor turning.
Yesterday I did a 600 mile round trip and put an injector cleaner in just as a precaution, but no change.
Anyone have any idea?
I've changed MAF and MAP sensors recently for an engine light problem and diesel filter changed today.

Hi. Ive just tried it, and when I turn over the engine the rev counter does begin to move.
Hopefully that indicates crank position sensor is functioning, as a rough guide.:)
Just a quick point, under all circumstances the starter is turning as it should and no error codes/lights coming up on dashboard/screen?

Starter is turning. No dashboard light, but this morning a guy did diagnostics for me. There were stored codes from the past, but still active is code P009511, air intake manifold temperature. He suggested that there will be another sensor after the MAF sensor which is reading the wrong temperature and thus possibly causing the bad starting from hot.
Now to find and replace.

I was slowly going in that direction, looking at fuel coolers on modern engines, but temp sensor does sound worth looking into.:)

Don't suppose you have any idea where it's situated? I'll probably start a new discussion for location.

Under further investigation it appears that the MAP sensor may also come with an integrated air temperature sensor. I don't know if they all come with the integrated sensor or only some of them so I am going to by another one and specifically a Bosch part with exactly the same part number as the original and start there. Maybe the one I ordered does not have an integrated temperature sensor.

This MAP sensor is out of a 2014 180. It does have temp sensor integrated.

When I bought my 2.8jtd in 2006, it was my first common rail diesel. Wondering what the function of this sensor on the inlet manifold was, I entered the part number into a web search engine. I was able to download full specifications, and connection details from the Bosch website.
