Hi, I am a new boy, bought a second hand Punto Cabrio, need to find out if any one has had a problem with the hood this one just will not fit correctly and leeks.
I have been on to Hood supply's but they will not garntee anew one not to leek
is they any one who can repair or service the frame as I think this is the problem, any suggestion.

Hi
It is not unusual for there to be small leaks at the top front corners of the hood which drip onto the driver or passenger. These can often be solved by adjusting the windows (you need to remove door panel to reach adjusters).

Another common problem is two short splits, one on either side of the roof above the doors. This is caused by a central crossmember of the frame not operating properly and trapping the roof in a scissor action. The only way to prevent this is to check that crossmember retracts properly every time you open the roof. You can see and reach it from the drivers seat, so it is not a major inconvenience. If you have this problem, you can patch it, but a permanent solution would be a new roof.

Another area to check is the stitching around the rear window. This can rot with age. This will upset the tensioning of the roof and lead to leaks which make their way into the boot. Check the spare wheel well for any water.

We had all these problems and had a new roof fitted a couple of years ago from a company based near Norwich who came out to fit the roof at our home in Suffolk. We still get a minor leak from one front corner when the car is facing uphill, but other than that it is dry. With hindsight, I should have replaced the header rail sealing rubber at the same time.

Hope this helps
Chris

Many thanks for the tips, my hood does a strange thing, when close and strait it's short of Windscreen but when off set [a slit V in front section] it meets the windscreen and closes
but doe not seal around windows and leeks sieve lick.
I will have to fined a body shop or garage that can fix this before getting new hood.
Regards.

The problem could be with the tensioning of the hood, which could cause the frame to twist. When the stitching went around the rear window of ours, it upset the tensioning and we struggled to get the front of the hood to meet the windscreen. The problem was solved with the new roof cover.
