Hi
It is not unusual for there to be small leaks at the top front corners of the hood which drip onto the driver or passenger. These can often be solved by adjusting the windows (you need to remove door panel to reach adjusters).
Another common problem is two short splits, one on either side of the roof above the doors. This is caused by a central crossmember of the frame not operating properly and trapping the roof in a scissor action. The only way to prevent this is to check that crossmember retracts properly every time you open the roof. You can see and reach it from the drivers seat, so it is not a major inconvenience. If you have this problem, you can patch it, but a permanent solution would be a new roof.
Another area to check is the stitching around the rear window. This can rot with age. This will upset the tensioning of the roof and lead to leaks which make their way into the boot. Check the spare wheel well for any water.
We had all these problems and had a new roof fitted a couple of years ago from a company based near Norwich who came out to fit the roof at our home in Suffolk. We still get a minor leak from one front corner when the car is facing uphill, but other than that it is dry. With hindsight, I should have replaced the header rail sealing rubber at the same time.
Hope this helps
Chris
