The trouble with Abarths is so many people can't say or spell "Abarth".
Someone the other day asked if my 500 TA was "one of them Abraths?"
Take a look at eBay... "Arbarths" all over the place.
Does make me laugh.
Makes me glad I've got a humble "Fiat" ; )

The reason for the spelling is the way it's supposed to be pronouned. I prefer to say it the way it's spelt which is supposedly incorrect.

Lol, you are right!
Although, Devon folk might say "Arr-barth" but I'm sure the correct pronunciation is more "Ahh-barth" ; )

I guess that if you have trouble with the pronunciation you could always call it a Fiat. ;)
:yeahthat:

This came up before on the FF but here is what fiatusa have to say

It is pronounced “aah-bart”, but I have heard both “aah-bahhth” and“ahh-barth”. Say whatever feels comfortable to you. I still say “poor-sha”.

Simple version from a youtube …..
It can be pronounced ah-barth, or ahbarth, not aye-barth. Just a little heads-up.

Suppose it depends on where your origins lie as to how you articulate.

Coming from the very North of North Yorkshire I would take A Bath. with a flat sounding a

But now I am down South one takes A Barth.

So takes your choice, depends if you are posh enough:devil:

I used to be a member of the POSH club when cruising with P&O, but this has been superseded by the Portunus Club. Those were the days, sooner spend my pennies on another Abarth in 18 months time.

I used to have Cinquecentos (SX first then a still missed Sporting). The people who can't pronounce Cinquecento properly are nearly as bad as the "Nuculler" people.

Incidentally, why can peeps say the "e" in Lanzarote but can't for Tenerife (clue: Tenerife should have the e pronounced).

Don't start me off - I'm continually exasperated by this issue. Italian must be the easiest language in the world to pronounce. Why do so-called experts on food, such as Gordon Ramsay, who's supposed to have cooked in an Italian kitchen, and Michel Roux junior insist on pronouncing the "g" in tagliatelle? Why can't the BBC's rugby commentators do the minimum required of a professional and learn how to pronounce the names of the Italian players? Why have we had the renegade Italian (non)politician Beppe Grillo called Gree-yo - as in Spanish - for the last fortnight?

Dear old Clay Regazzoni hit the nail on the head when he asked why the Americans called Mario Andretti End-ready.

(I also have fondest memories of a Cinquecento Sporting.)
