Technical Trouble selecting reverse gear

My daughter has had some problems getting her 500C into reverse gear, no issues with the forward gears. I could do with some advice with where to start to diagnose the cause.
The clutch fluid level is good but there is some milkiness as you can see in the photo, could this be an issue with the seals in the clutch cylinders? Or is the problem more likely to be with the clutch itself.

What precisely is it doing when you’re having problems ?

Is it crunching the reverse gear (crunching sounds)?

(Could def do with a full flush to be honest)

It is just difficult to get into gear no crunching or grinding.

That’s a gear linkage problem surely then

Reverse doesn’t have synchro mesh so most clutch/hydraulic problems would result in crunching.

Thanks, I’ll start there, but probably change the fluid anyway

To make it quicker , find a way of pulling out whatever is in the reservoir (with a plastic syringe or something), then refill with new, then bleed the pipes through

Not that’s noticeable (bit tricky to know properly as she’s living at the other end of the country so I’m going off what she’s telling me )

We had this issue where it was impossible to select reverse, interesting driving, worked out a bit of swift action of the stick it would go in eventually.
Never found the issue it eventually cured itself over about a year, for a long time the stick would stay right, you had to physically move from 5th say to fourth, it would not "spring" back

Ask can you select revers without issue engine off?

Hi, it will go into reverse gear most of the time as normal, so based on the other replies I’d guess the issue is with wear in the selector mechanism

Not sure what you mean. Which bit is worn?
If it's intermittent could be operator different shoes, stretched cable, retaining nut loosened?
Has something caught underneath and obstructs selector?
As above, check engine on/off?
Release cables and try manual shift.
