Greetings, I'd like to canvass the great and good on here with a simple question regarding rear light clusters. I am the proud owner of a much-modified 1967 F and have recently been out "shopping" in my little roller skate. (y)(y) Imagine my horror on return to notice that my offside rear side light was showing half red half clear ???:confused: Now my car has the TRIOM rear lights and they seem to have been on the car from build, when I investigated I found that the red side/stop bulb has a removable red cup type cover that sits over the clear two filament bulb - this had become detached allowing the half and half light (n)(n)
Anyone seen this before??????? There seems no other way than to wedge the cup into the mount as it has to come out again in the case of replacement!!!
Or have I got a mount with a non original cover that won't hold the cup in place??
These cars never fail to amaze with the different mods throughout it's life - I wonder what's my next discovery :eek:
Ian.

It's hard to tell from your pictures, but it looks like you could slot the housing at the top and the bottom to allow the red cover to twist into a locking position. That way, the round edges of the lens cover would 'lock' into the housing and you could twist it to the flats to remove easily.

Hi Matt, good idea, but the cover is only just gripped by the mount sides it's not a good fit - the next time it comes loose I'll remember your tip and see what can be done (y)(y)(y)

Sadly Ian, that is the problem with 'pattern' parts. I thought that i would smarten up the rear of my car and fitted 'pattern' rear lamps. I came back from a trip one day to have Ann point out to me that one of the rear lights looked 'funny' (highly technical, but quite apt, description). It turned out that the bulb-holding part of the lamp's body only had one bulb locating slot---the bulb was basically relying on friction to hold it in place! Comparing the 'pattern' part with an original was "lemons and pears". The 'factory' lamp has metal bulb-holders. I therefore decided to refit the 'factory' lamps, even though the 'chrome' has dissapeared from the plastic rim of the lens---never had another problem.
Despite the best efforts of both my friend in Italy and me, we have not been able to locate any 'original' rear lights at all so that I can try to improve the appearance of the lens.
I did investigate the fitting of 'pattern' lens to 'Factory' lamp bodies--no chance!

Not meant as a silly suggestion Ian---how about a couple of small balls of 'blu-tac' to hold the bulb-cover in place?

That or those "command adhesive" pull tabs for hanging pictures and the like. That would make replacement easy. Or a dab of superglue and put LED bulbs in so you don't have to worry about replacing them for some time.
