Greetings All, I've actually got a bit of time on my hands so I thought as the engine is out I'll sort the Tripod modification. I did note that the late 126 hubs were very easy to turn and did wonder if the hub turning torque had been set correctly. I started on the rear left and after a brief struggle the staked nut gave way and I had the old coupling off. I'm glad that I did as it was showing heavy wear with the rubber filling extruding out that made the fitting of a spanner onto the nut difficult, in the end I used a model knife to trim the rubber away for access. Refitting the tripod housing is simple but the setting of the hub turning torque is a faff. I found a piece of tubing and attached it to two wheel bolts after marking the required 4.3" from centre a small bag of gravel provided the 1Lb needed all that was now required was a little tweak with the handbrake on then brake off and check the movement of the gravel bag, too slack try again - this went on for a while

I will say that you do need a fair amount of leverage to adjust the crush on the spacer, but, little by little don't over do it as you will need a new spacer. Anyway time for a halt finish tomorrow.
