Technical transfer an engine? HELP HELP time is running out!

hey all,

okay, I have a 5 door and have found a 3 door with a knackered engine in sonic blue... nice. my 5 door is maroon.... ug! the 3 door is the 3 door abarth and is EXACTLY the same spec a my 5 door, just less 2 doors..and better looking! also, for modding, the 3 door has more options.

there isnt much time left (about 2 days) for me to buy the 3dr so haste would be fantastic!!

so my questions are (some may be silly but i need reassuring!);

(1) can i transfer a 5 door 2.4 into the 3 door 2.4
(2) does anyone know how much this could cost if ONLY the engine needed swapping?
(3) can i swap the seats from my 5 door into the 3 door?
(4) do you think it would be cheaper to rebuild the engine and use my car for bits that need replacing? mileage is similar.

basically can i transfer everything that works on mine to replace anything that doesnt work on this one? i know there is a width and height difference but do not know what this applies to part wise.

i think the answers are YES but not 100%

apparantly the 3 door is a runner!! just to add a bit, i assume that everything is the same really so should be simple? cant imagine fiat would make 2 sets of parts...

someone on another website said around £450 for engine swap.. does that sound right?

£450 sounds about right for an engine swap, you may have a problem if the other Stilo is the later model as the engine was moved back slightly in the engine bay and different location for ecu and a couple of other things, that was change from 04 onwards.

thank for the replies. still not quite got the difference between the seats! arent they going to be the same size! guess not but still a little baffled... i know, IDIOT right!

okay, so have bought the 3 door.

does anybody know how much it will cost to retrim the car in leather? also, want to transfer the sat nav etc into the new one, does anybody know wher the GPS box is, i got lost... i know, IDIOT right!!

im not sure if they are yanking your chain about the seats. have a look at them and if they look the same chances are they will swap. have a look at the fixing points etc.

so you breaking the 3dr then? could do with a few spare parts myself?

just ask yourself how would you get in the back of a 3dr with 5dr seats........give you a hint theres two less doors......

why shouldnt they? its the car frame that allows easier access to the back not the seats?

or you saying the five door front seats dont have the ability to fold forward? im not sure i have never seen 5dr seats?

cost for re-trim your looking at £700-£750+

Seats wont fold forward. They will fit. Just be no way to get into back.
