hi all

im still having trouble starting my cinq. it takes approx 8-10 attempts to start when warm and normally it will start immediately when its cold. Ive been puzzled over what could be doing this, and ive noticed the TPS makes a quite loud constant clicking noise and if you unplug it whilst its running,it clicks rapidly and then stalls almost immediately!. i could be wrong but i cant seem to find anything else wrong with it, any ideas guys? :bang:

cheers

the TPS won't be clicking, and shouldnt stall the car if you unplug it.

the idle control valve fits that bill. unplug it. ignition on for 15 seconds. switch off. plug back in. switch on - start car. it should idle at around 2000rpm for a bit and then hunt up and down before settling.

if that doesnt work, then check the connections to the temperature sensor on the inlet manifold (blue plug, rear right hand side if you're looking at the engine from the front). clean it up.

If that doesnt work replace it. But dont pay silly money for one (fiat price is around £30 i think  )

hi guys

quick update, ive just tried to swap the tb's over to see if that helped but i think there is something wrong with the other tb as well (car started misfiring straight away) :bang:. im going to try make a good one out of two bad ones, i also changed the temp sensor but that had no effect

hi all

quick update ive fixed the problem with the starting :slayer:, i changed the tps,icv and the air temp sensor and found that the crankshaft sensor had come loose and was nowhere near close enough to the pulley . Anyway as always ive found a new problem with it. The clunking noise the gearbox is making is because there was no oil in it so i put a litre in it and the noise went away, i then went round the front to put the bonnet down only to find the entire bottle of oil id just put in on the floor :bang:. ive had a look at it and both cv boots on the small driveshaft are split so thats another job i need to do however, i couldnt get the driveshaft out of the hub when i swapped the engine so i take it its a much more difficult job than it should be?

cheers

don't remove them from the hub ;)

Remove the hub to suspension bolts, or at least the top, and slacked the bottom (the two large ones), the witha bit of pulling and wiggling you can remove the shaft from the box, leaving them fitted to the hub.

Support them once removed, so you don't put stress on the joints.

Cheers,

Kristian
