Even though I am in no way defending him, but what prison sentence do you think he should get for killing a hamster? And how old was he?

And yes, I am a total pet lover - and even have a hamster upstairs.

Well, I think the result was that he's been banned from owning pets for a couple of years, and I believe he was about 27.

For throwing someone's pet hamster to it's demise, that's a hard one.. two years?
What if it was a dog he threw out the window?

What do you think about it, what would you propose?

Going to say something slightly silly here..... but what if it were a pet ant or a pet stick insect? What then?

Ok, so it wasn't a dog. Where do you draw the line? What about a snake?
I'm not trying to p*** you off by disagreeing with what you say, but generally to me I think that killing a hamster is the same as killing a dog.. they're both living animals at the end of the day.

But a dog is treated differently in law - for instance, if you run over one, you have to report it to the Police within 24 hours.

I can't see a hamster getting the same status or any other small rodent.

2 years for this? In an already over-crowded prison system? Now if he had thrown his partner out of the window at the same time...

I didn't think you had to report it anymore?

Oh well forgive my ignorance I didn't know about this Law, I never heard of it before (y)

Anyway, I can sort of see why the Law makes sense.. because if you ran over a hamster it could be anything.. a wild mouse or rat etc, but what we're talking about here is the conscious decision that was made in this person's head that thought it was okay to pick up a pet hamster out of it's cage, and throw it out the window!

No idea mate, it may have changed. I know I hit one about 3 years ago, causing damage to my car - the 2 scrotes who had it off a lead in an unlit road then tried to attack me; no Police arrived on scene due to lack of resources, so I was left with a damaged car and a potential assault on me.

I went down to station next day and the girl on the counter seemed totally disinterested and gave me a form. I binned it on the way out :)

dla isnt that much, be lucky if you got half of that he must be claiming for dependants or they are paying his rent too

There's a family I know (when including their rent benefit) earn more than I do after tax and deductions.

1 parent on disability. The other a 'carer' and one of the kids are "disabled" also. I say disabled loosely because they get pain in one of their joints now and a again .

if it was 1 disabled in a house where everyone worked they would get between 100 an 200 a month, no rent or nothing else, no free prescriptions no free dentist no free eye test ( unless tesco has a deal on)

well my mum gets nearly 400 a month and does get free prescriptions, dentist etc so I guess it's whoever you get at the DWP processing your application

she must be getting tax credits or income support on top of her dla. dla gets you no healthcare extras

Not sure what my brother gets, but he gets pretty much most things due to his disabilities. Won't ever have to pay for healthcare, fairly sure he doesn't get tax credits or income support. Unless its on my mums behalf?
