Yeah got it HD ready, I am getting SkyHD when it comes out even tho it's a con at £10 a month extra and £300 for the bloody box. I still have a 26" LCD in the bedroom so don't worry not totally gone over to the dark side

Just to clear a few up;

Regas issue on Plasmas is simply NOT true.

The main issue people have with Plasmas is the "pixel burn" (or rather the equivalent) when used in display situations. But then LCDs get dead pixels which some people consider more annoying as it's only really businesses that get the pixel burn on plasmas.

Also, HD is not the holy pannacea it's being pushed as, only a handful of US programs will be available in HD quality for quite a while. The BBC is only commiting to FILMING in HD by 2010, no commitment to Broadcasting it yet. Most production companies are actually finding it difficult to get hold of HD cameras and production equipment. It seems that the main demand for HD will be gaming (X360 and PS3) and home movies for quite some time.

In the meantime the general concensus is that Plasmas are better at displaying SD picture anyway.

The main difference between LCD and plasma is the sizes that you can buy. Upto about 32" you will only get LCD, above 42" only plasma, with a grey area in between. Both give good pictures from a good source. Re-gasing the plasma is a bit of a myth too, should not be nessicary for many years.

Honestly Smee, you muppet !! I haven't found (or sold, when I was in the trade) a Plasma that needed re-gassing in years !!!

As for LCD sizes, they are much bigger than 32" now (Samsung released an 82" LCD over a year ago), but IMHO, Plasma's still give the best picture, unless you buy a real top of the range LCD. LCD comes in to it's own with HD, but as has already been mentioned, HD is still in it's infancy as a consumer format and even the likes of Sky's HD package fall well short of what is currently available. If you go and see an HD demo in a store at the moment, they are all hooked up to an HD based hard drive unit, playing back pre-recorded demo's. They look great, but you won't necessarily get that at home just yet. PS3 and XBOX 360 will be the first big things to utilise it, but your DVD player will not show any signs of improvement as the discs aren't encoded for proper HD yet. There is the usual "format War" approaching with HD-DVD and Blu Ray vying for your hard earned.

There is also some debate about "proper" HDTV. There are about 4 types/resolutions (720p60, 1080i50, 1080p/30 & 1080p60. "i" stands for interlaced and "p" for progressive scan, the latter being regarded as superior in quality. The first number is display resolution i.e 1080 pixels and the small number is frame rate) , each having benefits and drawbacks.

Now is the time for early adopters. Those who have more cash than sense and want to brag to their mates. Let them do the testing for you, the prices wil start to drop very soon and then we can all muscle in :)

smee ur talking ******** i have a 42inch plasma its 2 years old and has never had to be re gassed. i suggest u get on some good av forums because they all rate plasma picture quality over lcd!!

mine supports 1080p through its dvi connection and the picture is bloody stunning when i play films like madagascar.

like rob says most current dvd players even the hd ones dont take full advantage of the screens true potential but when you hook it up to the pc with the correct hardware thats when it comes to life!! as for screen burn on plasmas it is an issue but if your wise you will buy one with anti burn technology like mine :)
