Honestly Smee, you muppet !! I haven't found (or sold, when I was in the trade) a Plasma that needed re-gassing in years !!!
As for LCD sizes, they are much bigger than 32" now (Samsung released an 82" LCD over a year ago), but IMHO, Plasma's still give the best picture, unless you buy a real top of the range LCD. LCD comes in to it's own with HD, but as has already been mentioned, HD is still in it's infancy as a consumer format and even the likes of Sky's HD package fall well short of what is currently available. If you go and see an HD demo in a store at the moment, they are all hooked up to an HD based hard drive unit, playing back pre-recorded demo's. They look great, but you won't necessarily get that at home just yet. PS3 and XBOX 360 will be the first big things to utilise it, but your DVD player will not show any signs of improvement as the discs aren't encoded for proper HD yet. There is the usual "format War" approaching with HD-DVD and Blu Ray vying for your hard earned.
There is also some debate about "proper" HDTV. There are about 4 types/resolutions (720p60, 1080i50, 1080p/30 & 1080p60. "i" stands for interlaced and "p" for progressive scan, the latter being regarded as superior in quality. The first number is display resolution i.e 1080 pixels and the small number is frame rate) , each having benefits and drawbacks.
Now is the time for early adopters. Those who have more cash than sense and want to brag to their mates. Let them do the testing for you, the prices wil start to drop very soon and then we can all muscle in
