500 (Abarth) Topolino Grigio

Introduction

Although Bellezza Nera, my Panda 100hp, isn't sold yet, I think it's time to present my Abarth 500, named Topolino Grigio (grey mouse).

ATM it's still on 135 HP, but as soon as Panda is sold it's going to get chiptuned.

Campovolo grey, the best colour IMHO, Climatecontrol, Xenon and leather. I would have liked the Panoroof and Esseesse wheels, but I'm pretty pleased with how it is.

The old fashioned way.My son slowly pushes the pedal and I open and close the nipple before he is completely down.
And whilst doing the spanner I also check for these tiny bubbles in the hose. Making sure the other end of the hose stays submerged in the jar.

Sadly my son would most likely put two fingers up if I told him to push the brake pedal down (he doesn't like cars) so I suspect I'll have to try the suction way, to avoid paying his labor rate (which is higher than an Alfa specialist per hour) :D

Thankfull we share the same passion (cars, cars and uhm cars). Hence the MiTo, the Alfa 33 1.7 (sold now), the Panda TA and my 100hp and Abarth.
And he lives litterally around te corner.

Ooh, I did love the Sud, and by extension the 33 😍 It's part of the reason I first gave a Subaru a try, the early 90s ones feel like a giant, powerful Sud to drive.

My son's still a young teenager but he's into fashion / design so though it may make him rich one day, his main interest isn't very compatible with oily bits of car :D

You might grow closer when he is older and wiser. Mine is 32 now...

I'd be happy enough if he became as rich as Karl Lagerfeld and bought me a Dino coupe as a plaything ;)

I think modern children generally have much less of an interest in cars now, I suppose because there aren't as many mad things like the E type Jaguar, BMW 2002 Turbo, Alfa Sprint or Ford Capri around there's not much to capture the imagination. And with the current trend towards self driving, EVs and connectivity, it's not too surprising cars are thought more of as a mobile home entertainment system than something fun in themselves. Who'd want a car which howls like a banshee and pushes you back in your seat when it interferes with your Youtube enjoyment?

The Barchettawheels are now on. They have Michelin Pilot Alpin's in 185/55 15 on. Normally I'm not a fan of Michelin (not good value for money), but this was an offer I couldn't refuse.
I really like the retrolook of the wheels on the campovolo grey.

Be interesting to see a pic of the whole car with them on, they'd look a bit rubbish with my black paintwork even if they fitted, but given the colour of yours quite closely resembles one of the the original Abarth 500 paintjobs, I bet it looks nicely retro:

A new problem presented itself.
Rearwiper stopped working and of course it turned out to be the wiring harness to the rear hatch.
I ordered a replacement silicone one from Amazon (€37 delivered from Germany).
On inspection far more wires were chafed than expected. Even the thick wires for the heated window were out of insulation. Sure that could be quite a hazard. I needed help from my son to get three hands (and his are far more steady), but all is working now😄

Not too surprising, the same thing happens with every hatchback / estate in existence eventually. At least the fix is relatively cheap though, and in theory silicone wires will last longer :)

Last sunday (boxing day) we both had an appointment to get our third jab. So 8.40 I turned the ignition key and (almost) nothing happened. Hurried to the shed to get my spare battery and the jumpercables from the boot and it started right away.
I suspected the battery anyway. I think it's the factory fitted from 2011. So when we were back (sore arm from Moderna) I ordered a new battery. Went from 50 to 52 AH and from 360 CCA to 470.
