General top speed

hi everyone
i have a 1993 1.6 i.e
i remember accelerating till i got 109 mph ( 178 km/h )
but u know i thought the engine was going to jump out of the car

Most i had out of my Tipo TD was 119mph shown on digi dash, and that was after 3-5 miles at maximum. Early Tipo 16v would indicate 140mph but later ones wouldn't.

thats true the 3 mk1 tipo sedi's i've had all went to 140mph, where as the 3 mk2's ive had dont get near it, i've been told its something to do with the gearbox being different in the mk1 and mk2 also the mk2 3dr is heavier.

can some1 please confirm this for me, and if i put a mk1 gearbox on a mk2 would this make any difference??

I'm not sure - I thought the boxes were basically the same. I understand that the 5 door may have had different cam profiles, less emmission restrictions possibly, and I am pretty sure the ECU set up was different. I wonder whether this was an attempt to make the cars more drivable in town/heavy traffic as the early Mk1's do hessitate badly when slow in town.

Over to Sumplug on this - I am sure he will know the answer!

right here goes;-
Very early J platers[about first 30-50 as no one will confirm] had uprated engines, guessmated as 155bhp. Mine was a 1991 on a J and i know it had this engine as the later one has a Different steering wheel [colour] and slight different pipe work in engine bay. The standard mk1's were rated at 145bhp and not 148bhp as printed. The mk2 had different cams and Ecu to produce 142 bhp but slightly more torque. Sedicirich is adament a mk2 is better then a mk1 in relation to speed, but ive driven loads of both and ive yet to drive a quick m2. They feel lacking where the mk 1 has two stages of power on the cams. One about 2400 revs, other around 4500-5000 revs. But mk 2 does not suffer low speed running problems that afflicted mk1's. My early one was terrible from idle until it hit 1500 revs, and then it would fly.It would hesitate and be fluffy. My later K reg one was better but would not rev like the early one. No contest!

Thanks Andy - I knew you knew!!!!! I can remember reading in I think CAr Magazine about a visit to Italy where some very early "test Mules" were driven with the highter BHP - from the photos they had the DGT grill/bumper and no skirts. - before increased emmission regs killed them.

I did'nt realise that as many "high powered" Mk1's arrived here - what was the steering wheel difference - I though they all had the standard Momo?.

I know that when all the mags tested the cars on many occasions the articles had photos of car A but the words refered to the test figs relating to another car borrowed from "Fiat UK" as the first was "down on power".

I have driven a number Mk1's (never driven a mk2 - must complete my education) and have aften found the cars to be completely different. To my mind this has always added to thr magic of the cars almost being "alive" as they all seem to drive so differently!!!!!!!!!!!

scratch the 100, mine has a new top speed, 106 mp/h GPS but i reckon it still had more to go, it really should have a rev counter but yeah i had to slow off for some corners... of course this was acheived on my private race track... and i was in no way trying my hardest not to lose my friends porsche out of sight.. failed miserably if i did :p

Hi Mike.
Steering wheel had different centre badge in lighter blue. the red bits were more orange then red [i thought it was sun related but parts manager told me they were that colour new].
You are spot on regards performance difference. They all do seem to drive differently! Ive driven one that was really lethargic low down but drive it at higher speeds, and it just went. Felt very strong at 100mph, much stronger then the one i had driven day before with good acceleration!!

Andy:)

There arn't any cars that perform like any of the Sedicis - Mk1 or Mk2.. Hot hatches were an 80's/90's thing. Emission control etc have turned them into quick but boring cars. Power is often there through a turbo making them useless around the corners compared to the very useful Tipo engines.

As Hellcat rightly says, there is no other car like a sedici. The fact the car is so versatile as well has amazed me it has not got icon status. Cars like the Escort RS2000 mk5 still command a premium, yet the sedici would pi** all over it.

Hey!
I'm not that good with mph, but i got 175km/h on my Tipo 1.4 '94. straight road, nothing ahead o me, round 3a.m in the mornin, luckily there were no cops on the highway at the moment, but i think 175km/h is pretty good eh?
but bout that inacuracy thing on the meters, i'm wonderin if thats true or not, cuz do take into account that gps lags aswell, and especially on higher speeds, and also u can't really have someone in another car behind u telling u what speed u're on unless u're in a pursuit with equal speeds u know. just wondering anyways;)
cheers!
