Top acceleration time

when do u change gears (RPM) to achieve top acceleration?

is it better to leave the car in 2nd and reach 100 kph(62mph@7100-7200 rpm), or is it better to chenge gear at say 6500 rpm to get more power...

I have 1.6 16V MK1

Peak power is 5800ish on the 1.6, change just after that so just before 6000. You will loose alot going to 6500.

power drops off steeply past 6k on the 1.6. 8k is just daft.

The rev limiter should kick in not long after 7k. Odd!

think its been chipped tom does that make any difference to limiters because my mate said in his dumb no knowledge about cars talk that the chipping derestrics it?

The limiter is there for a darn good reason If its been chipped and the limiter has been messed with there is probably a good change nige would not be able to tune it.

darn it! ill take a picture of it when i go to my car next its kinda freaky actually i thought the car was just knackered, luckily i only did it once and it was fine with it no comlaints from the engine, just the girlfriend at the noise it made! lol

The biggest danger is the forces on the crank will fling all the oil out and you will destroy the bearings.

Best NOT to rev it that high
