The temperature gauge goes from 3 notches below halfway upto 1 notch above it within the city, and steadily 3notches below halfway in motorway cruising.
When the car is on the move the temperature drops. As soon as I stop in a traffic light it goes up again.
The car is a 96 1,6SX Bravo and the oil used is the Selenia 10w40.

Sounds like your thermostat is not as healthy as it could be. ITs not helped by it being so cold at the mo.

Thanks for the advise. One question perphaps foolish though. Is there any way to make sure if the thermostat is off or I just go to my Fiat garage and tell them to change it ? Any ideas as to how much am I looking at?

The only real way to check is to remove it and sit it in a pan of hot water with a new thermostat and watch them.

£50 for the thermostat + just under 1hr fitting.
