Ok, I want to get rid of my lexus rear lights for my mk1 (anyone wanna buy selling for about £25 - they about £40-£60 on ebay)

I am putting the standards in but I wanna tint them black/dark. What is the legal low down on this as well as what can be used to tint them?

You used to be able to buy from a Foliatec a German company they did a tinted laquer for lights that was still legal, think Halfords do it.

Can you send me some pics of the lights please

Thanks
Kris

Wouldnt mind having them.. dont get paid till end of month though, so if you sell em in mean time dont worry. If you have them at the end of the month i will take them. Post or collection?

Thanks
Kris

hi nicky.
im not sure if on the law 100%. As the refectors on mk1 puntos are in the rear light cluster firstly these must not be painted over (unless another red reflectore is loced elseware on the rear) so just mask these off with a few layers of tape. as to the actual lights im not too sure. Id give them a "light tiniting" so that light is still viewable though so therefore its less likely to get pulled etc.
Thanks
alex

I'm very interested in doing this as well. Would you mind posting some sort of guide on how you did it?

i think they look good tbh :) just make sur eyou take off the lights ... spray themm and if they run let them run, dont ruv it because you wont get the same colour on that bit againn :) but if u go wrong i think white spirit gets it off (Y)

heres what mine looked like after 4 sprays ... 4 sprays was enough for me :)

its not that hard...

1/remove ligts from car...

2/lean the surface and dry if needs be.

3/apply very light coat of tint spray

4/leave for 10-20 mins

5/apply another very light coat

6/leave for 10-20 mins...

7/carry on doing this untill desired tint shade.

8/let it dry fully for around 30-40 mins...

re-fit...

Thought you spray the inside of them not the outside?

Umm yh i think your sposed to do the inside but i did outside because i couldnt be asked to take off the light its too difficult because i ent got the right bits to do it lol.
if it starts rubbing off or watever ill just take it off with white spirit and pay 7 quid and do it inside haha.

Oh right ok, was just wondering because it might look a bit different on the outside than inside

They're looking good TeeJay :)

Im going to do my in the summer when im gonna get some other jobs done aswell :)

I would be tempted to put lacquer on the top to protect it and give a shinny finish :)

Does any1 know what lacquer to use?
