I have the 2.0L 20v marea and i've been told that the timing belt is coming up for its replacement. The guy in the garage said that due to the difficulty of getting the timing belt replaced in position, the engine fiat say that the best procedure is to remove the engine which is costly.

Has anyone had this problem or knows of the costs involved?

Cambelt...

Try looking elsewhere on this site at the other postings relating to this. I know that the 2.0 Litre unit is too tight for an 'in-situ change and is an 'Engine Out' job - Fiat would charge around £1000 - £1200; an Independant Garage would charge £ 750 ish....

Good Luck !

confirm...

..it is an engine out job. From memory the 72000 mile time is something like 11 hours. Check your service book. If you don't have one gimme a shout and I will check mine. Not all Fiat dealers charge the same hourly rate. The trick seems to be to in finding one of the cheaper ones who do a good job. Where are you based?

I bought the car used and there wasn't a book with it thats why I don't know anything about the replacement. I had it in the garage and the guy told me about the timing belt. He said that it was 60,000mls or 5years, is he right about the 5 years bit?

manual

says 72,000 miles or 6 years, service intervals are 12,000 or 12 months.

Cheers

Try Betacar on 01535 275560, there in Culingworth, West Yorkshire, they've worked on all my cars in the past and I thoroughly reccommend them. As we speak they are currently changing the suspesion on my Marea 20v.
