Mrs got in the car yesterday evening and turned the car over whilst in gear :bang: turned the ignition off and took it out of gear and started it properly, but for some reason the time and date have reset themselves
the weird thing is the rest of the computer is normal, trip computer as it was along with mpg. any clues??

the car is a 1.3 idea mjet

battery/voltage related....is battery in good condition?

battery is perfect, just had a closer look and the trip did reset also (I was slightly drunk when I looked last night lol)

as she tried to start with it in 3rd I'm wondering if it was some kind of protection cut out

no protection cut out etc....loss of voltage at cluster.

is battery positive cable shorting out on battery tray?

I'll give that a look, the battery was off last week to change the temperature sensor

I'd never sell a fiat to a mate :ROFLMAO:

.............why not:confused:

To be fair the punto we own is great, other than having to tighten the steering column its been great, but the Idea is another story.

new clutch after 45k, new clutch has done 5k and is starting to judder the same as the last one, gearbox linkage seized solid, horrible rasp from the engine when cold but engine-injection-ecu are all fine  loads of issues with the egr (which is now disabled), maf sensor packed up, front springs are made from shoe laces (had one break), mystery temperature sensor problem, mostly trivial stuff but all this on a 10 year old car I'd expect but a 2005 with full service history is not great.

for its bad points I really like the car :doh:and remapping it has made it a bit better to drive

Well we get this with our Idea mjet since we got it 4 years ago and its now 5+ years old. The car is fine until the outside temperature drops below 1C and then it resets on trying to start. The other thing we get is temperature gauge flicks up to past the hot point and back down again so I wonder if this is some software glitch with sensors that causes resets etc. No problems in starting the car so not worried at this stage and it goes away as it warms up !! Tried getting looked at a dealer when we brought it but they coudln't find an problem , lets hope global warming comes on a bit quicker before the Idea goes to meet it's maker:)

I have an ( 05) 1.3 multijet which has now done 68000 and never been off the road for one day.Changed tyres once and that was it apart from normal servicing.
It averages 65-69 mpg on a long trip driving at national max speed limits. Never needs oil between servicing.
I think you must have just got a friday afternoon car.

I agree, the idea is actually a good car. 'thevoid's car obviously has voltage issue (a pain but not costly etc) that will no doubt be cured by a battery.(still say fiat fit too small a battery to 80% of their cars)

Just an update, the problem has not resurfaced once since so maybe the muckyanuks theory of little battery + minus temperature + trying to start in 3r gear + headlights on = total brief battery drain

Agree with battery theory, mine flattens after approx 2 weeks standing, never known this before with past cars, Peugeot 206 & Astra company cars. This winter I had to cut back on electrical usage while driving mainly short town journeys or next morning I had a near flat battery occasionally requiring a slave battery start.
