Technical Ticking noise from the engine

I have a ticking noise from the engine its a 1.2 2000 Punto with 54.000 miles on the clock. i was told it was the tappets but these are hard to fix and cost alot and want to know if anyone else has had this prob or what could fix it as im need advice before someone rips me off

Is the engine a 1.2 8 valve?if it is then it will have shims to adjust the clearances,if this is the cause of the noise then it should only take about 1 hour or so to check,and the cost of new shim(s) not too expensive!g.l.

Yeah its a 1.2 8v 2000 MIA... so u think its the shims ok i will ask about see how much it cost i was told also that a engine flush would sort it out but here in northern ireland they are all con men :yuck: Thanks very much

may sound stupid but check your oil levels and change your oil, add a simular problem n it turn out it just needed an oil change
