Ticking noise from engine

Hello,

My 115 hlx has developed a ticking noise coming from the engine. Its frequency is matched to the engine speed, but it doesnt get any louder as it gets faster, hence you can only really hear it at tickover.

At tickover the noise is fairly noticable (to me at least), i cant describe it very well, other than to say it has a frequency of about 10 ticks a second at tickover.

I havent noticed any drop in performance or fuel economy. Does anybody have any ideas of what this could be? I know its not easy to give a diagnosis with such vague information, but general ideas would be useful. Should i get it looked at by a mechanic?

I'm pretty sure its the tappets mate and you have nothing to worry about.
Tom will verify no doubt ;)

Could be a dry (sticking)tappet.
I don't know the cure for it if it is other than take the offending one out and fettle it.
If it is this i'm sure Tom will know of a cure
though it may not be this at all.

I remember having a similar prob - I filled the oil resevoir up and job done!

I had a ticking noise on my old hlx, mine was the pre tensioner on the cambelt, but no way was it 10 ticks per second, thats pretty rapid, are you sure you have that right?
