Technical Throttle Weirdness

i'd disconnect the battery overnight and give it a good run 2moro.

The reason i say this is that if the air filter has been clogged, the ECU would have 'learnt' that it has to open the ICV more to drag air through the clogged filter whilst idling. Now that the air filter is clean, it doesnt have to keep opening the ICV as much, and by doing so its holding the revs too high.
If the air filter was clogged, it could also explain your rich-mix (over fuelling) symptoms.

Which is the map sensor?

Yup used everything off the punto. The red block is going back on the punto....

Blocked that breather pipe and idle has dropped to just above 1k so stark improvement. MAP Sensor and pipework is absolutely fine.

Won't be able to take it out for a run today as I'm servicing the coolant system and going to pick another car up but will leave the battery disconnected tonight and then take it for a run tomorrow.

Thanks for all your help, its cool having a whole wealth of experience!!!
