Well finally got my Cinq back Yesterday....What and absolute riot it is to drive. I instantly can see its a keeper!! However slight problem. It was all going fine...then suddenly the revs have started to stick at 2000rpm. Like the throttle is sticking open a bit. This makes braking in gear a weird experience as the car is trying to accelerate!

I thought it might be a sticky throttle cable but if I hook my foot under the accelerator and pull it back the revs go back to norma but as soon as I take my foot out from behind the revs rise again???? This made me think it might not be the Cable

Any Idea's what it might be? Or is it just a shonky cable?

OOOh on idea!! I'll av a check this afternoon. Is that the little cover thing at the TB end of the cable? Just infront of the adjustment nuts?

Smashing as always you've been a huge help. Thank you.....I happen to have a Punto 60 lying around thats gunna be scrapped.....If the TB is knackered on the Cinq could put that on haha.

If the little black nipple isn't there does that mean it just needs a cable??

If you have a Punto 60 sitting, then put the TB on the Cinq anyway. Its bigger.

No nipple is not a problem. Nipple caught in the mechanism (some pay good money for that!), just remove it if it won't stay on the outer cable end.

Cheers

Yeah I knew about the slightly bigger TB. I'll see how bored I get on Monday as whether to fit the 32mm TB haha.

Well Rallycinq you were right just that little nipple thing messing everthing up. Will I be able to put my TB back on the Punto? Its just to drive it to the scrappies?

Well my ideling problems continue.....

I moved that nipple thing and it was idling at the right level but was running a bit rought. So I've sreviced it.

The Spark plugs were black and sooty so is obviously been overfueling. Also the air filter was about the same colour as the spark plugs!! Absolutely manky!! So now they've been replaced its running lovely and smoothly but the high idle has come back???

Does anyone know the reason for this or the remedy? Could it be the car has been overfuelling because the airfilter has been so clogged and now the car idles high because the ECU hasn't adapted? Could a previous owner have fitted one of those ebay resistors??
I've noticed that the inside of the airfilter housing is a little scortched?? Could this be an indication of the trouble??

Thanks for any and all help.

Qwerty

When you get to the scrappy take the TB back off so you've got a spare original with the throttle position sensor etc to keep as spares. ;)

I reckon it'd be worth swapping the punto TB in as it has another throttle position sensor already in it, if it still does it then that's eliminated the TB and everything plugged in to it (y)
Other simple stuff to try -
If you haven't already, cut the little plastic/rubber boot off so it doesn't fall into the throttle quadrant ever again.
Check that all the temperature sender plugs are fully pushed home, unplugged = no resistance, no resistance = cold, cold means running on cold start enrichment, raised but consistant tickover and not using the lambda sensor.
Take the airbox off and look down the TB with the ignition (stage 2) recently switched on, if you can see fuel dripping onto the butterfly, the injector or o-ring is fubared.

P.S. Are you gonna put the red gasket on? ;)

Re: Qwerty

Smashing thanks for your help. I presume there's a FAQ on TB removal etc??

As for red Gasket Yeah I am once I find another one for the drivers side. :D

*Edit*

Right I've read the guide....seems simple enough and I'm gunna give it a try tonight weather permitting. Do you think I'll need new gasket paper? Is the plastic gasket different on the punto compared to the Cinq? Do I need to swap them over? Any hints of what might go wrong? COs lets face it with older cars things always go wrong haha.

Thanks for help peeps

Tom

Well 32mm TB has been fitted after some problems (see other thread) and its still idling high.

Levemir's suggestion of vacuum pipe makes sense as I've found a pipe (see below) and have nothing to connect it to/don't know where it goes.

So where does it attach to? You can also see in that photo the other problem I have discovered. (see other thread PLLLLLEEEEAAASSSSE)
