...has it in for me. The timing belt just snapped as I was letting it tick over on the drive. The 769cc FIRE is non-interference so hopefully it will be ok, I just hope the head hasn't been skimmed in the past.

it should be fine, you can skim past the max skim markers and still be safe

Pete, with the FIRE engines it's not unheard of for engines to be damaged if the head is skimmed and the belt breaks.

The clearance can be measured in millimetres and if the head is skimmed excessively is can cause problems.

Stu, it's was the green car's head gasket, not the timing belt. The 750 hasn't moved off the drive, as I'm working on it. I'll sling a new belt on and it'll be away again. This car looks like it was on the original 1989 belt, I haven't even had a chance to service it yet.
Hope it's ok for you steve, if it makes you feel any better the sisley's still off the road till I find a new heating duct.
Oh aye I forgot that was the gasket.
