General Thinking of buying a punto...advice from the experts? (styling/tuning)

know the feeling well. when my parents bought my punto i was (just about) able to afford a 182 now driving a 1.2 grande punto against a 182 clio i know which id have. but that is a personal opinion as mad as it may seem. and frankly id rather arrive late in style than arrive early in a bag of crap (not an insult to the clio as i do like them). thing to look at is (doesnt matter whether this applies in this case or not) do you waant just go or just style or a balance between the two. whether you prefer the looks of a clio or gp can only be decide by you same goes performance wise (whether you buy abarth or are prepared to mod) as a grande can be quicker than a clio. but a clio can be quicker than a grande. this all depends on money.

unbiased perspecive: id say look at the specs and a few pics as well as budget and decide.

biased perspective: id say go clio (balance of already achieved performance, price, looks, and modding capability.)

looks only: id say grande

performance only: id say clio

i hope that helps (knowing me it wont) and good luck :)

/\ disregard all of that /\

You havent said what GP you are looking at so cant really say if a remap is worth it or not.

I havent really decided yet, I'm trying to do my homework before I make the purchase. The diesel obviously has the biggest performance gain for the least amount of money and when Tris Harris says dont rag it anywhere, does that mean dont rag it...ever? Im usually abit of a fairy behind the wheel after seeing several friends total their cars due to driving at silly speeds, but every now and then I feel the need to just be abit of a douchebag and drive as fast as the car can go (which isnt very fast in my current focus)

Depends totally on your driving style, if you like high revs, noise and flying round corners flat out then get the T-jet, If you like good mpg and huge straight line oomph get the Mjet. Totally up to you.

I only had a map and induction at the time and even with my zhaust and exhaust ive not gained any peak power i just hold peak torque much further into the rev range.

Ahh well, looks like mapped Tjet is a bit quicker than i thought. Did he have any edge on you at all? wonder what the Mjet is doing with all its torque?? Maybe the next race should be up a hill or towing a caravan lol.:slayer:

He started a bit further back i saw him pulling on me so i decided to plant it aswell and then adam probably started to pull slightly on me but speeds were getting a bit silly so backed off.

Yeah, was too fast in those conditions  The Mjet has a narrower band, and by the time its getting up past ***mph its running out of juice even with the 6th gear. There will be speeds where the torque of the Mjet will out do the Tjet, but when the Mjet's power band runs out the Tjet is still going. I think its pretty even, its up to the buyer to decide wether they would like the extra 20mpg :p

I think personally you should get the 1.4 16v Sporting...looks great, gives you the extra mpg due to its 6th gear* and makes loads of noice whilst going flat out around corners** and only has one major downside...no speed whatsoever :bang:

*When not using the power at all
**with the correct modifications

hmmm i suppose a 1.9 would be my best bet then. I'm not going to be buying brand new on my current income and was looking to buy second hand with abit of milage on it. Doesn't seem to be many 1.9 tjets being sold at the moment, ive only found 1 and the advert is about a month old
