think i have a computer virus already

only had the laptop a week and i think ive been hit already.

in ie7 on the tabs you get the name of the site and an icon to the left of it. for example fiatforum has an F as the icon. well it used to anyway, now it chooses what it wants. i just signed in know and it had the yellow pages logo instead and yesturday it was the norton logo. this isnt the first time, i think it started 2 days ago.

so does anyone know if this is a glitch in ie7 or does it sound like a virus?

if it is a virus how do i get rid of it.

Tried doing a scan? Maybe clear out all your cookies and cache/temp files as well.

try AVG which is free or maybe such as sophos which i use in work and home

if it happened 2 days ago restore your computer to 3 days ago using rstrui.exe (type restore in run)

Good idea about doing a system restore as well.

It's not a Virus, I don't think, it's something to do with the way IE7 handles Favicon's (The little graphics in the address bar).

Someone I know had this problem, cleared out the cache and was fine.

norton 360 does seem to be miles better than the ones it replaced. i have done scanns every day since i got the laptop to empty cache and history. thing is it doesnt do it constantly. for example im on tv licence site and the logo for that is correct. and now for this site it is the ie 'e'.

never used other browsers?

If its the same in other browsers you may have a problem, but at least you can isolate the problem and see if its IE related.

i just deleted a program called AdVantage and all seems to be well again.
