thanks for all the advice on gearbox oil-changed oil ok
I know this is a silly request, but does anybody know where you can get technical details ie handbook, or is there another fiat ie. punto which has the same engine and general running gear.
My engine never seems to get hot, advice from local fiat dealer is saying that I need a whole thermostat block at about £ 70, but looking at the main header pipe detail, you can, it seems remove the elbow and access thermostat.
Is this so? as the removal of this block could be very technical.

Hello van Houten.
What kind of engine?
The 1700 diesel uses a thermostat+ housing+ enginemount all in one...!!
You can't just change the thermostat by itself...!
It's not that difficult to change it though.
If you're from Holland, look for an less expensive alternative on www.hbase.nl or www.masterbase.nl (online version).

Are you sure your engine stays too cold, is the cabin heater working?
The gouge in my Fiorino tells me it's too cold, but it isn't in fact...

Hi,i had the same when i brought mine!! so got mine new stat from Fiat dealer but a lot less than that ;o)
anyway....wasnt much different,so blanked off the grill whith some ply painted black and fitted from behind, keeps the old girl a little warmer on these cold days and nites!!.but did notice the fan seems to come in early so maybee the temp sensor for the fan is probably to sensitive???.(thats before i fitted the ply by the way).
Theyre quite a simple van to work on and will go on for ever, well ...until the body fails im sure.

hope this helps

That's not a good idea, before you know, the engine will overheat, and you'll end with a blown head gasket, ( why do you think the fan comes on early now...!!).
No its Fine, still gets air from just above the numberplate, and when it warms up i just take it off,as for the fan its always come in early (did say before)so the sensor is kicking in a little too soon, before the new stat the heater was luke warm, after the new stat still the same!! plywood free..new sensor costly!!

but thanks for the advice, i do have city and guilds in motor mechanic's too so i sharnt be blowin a gasket.

Cheers

Richie
