Hmmm,, further to my other post about a F1 sticky. Thought I'd start this one off,,,,

F1

Kimi on poll, Alonso close behind, its gonna be awesome.
Watch out for the BMWs, they are looking very quick.

Lets just hope 07 is as good as 06 :D

Sato's starting 10th - Super Aguri's highest ever grid slot - they hardly ever make it past the first qualifying session! :D

F1

Fantastic race. Well done Lewis, what a debut.

I can't help but feel that Jenson is going to be another Coulthard. Loads of promise, but not much else.

And well done Kimi, superb result and Massa a great comeback drive.

Yes I stayed up and watched it.(y)

Massa was the man of the race for me. 1 stop, and half the race on the soft tyres when everyone else said they were only good for around 15 laps. Hope he wins the championship.

I know life moves on but I missed Schue being on the grid..

Agree about Massa. Imagine his finishing position if he had been in the top 6 on the grid. Wonder if Jenson and co are wishing they were still using last years car, or at least a developement, whilst they the new Honda up to speed??

But you really can't take it away from young Lewis, he managed to match Alonso most of the laps.

And strangely, I miss Montoya.

But yes the late great Senna. There is clip on YouTube somewhere of Senna waving to Prost just before he takes his grid slot in 1994 Imola.:(

Thread resurrection time! :D

I'm interested in most forms of motorsport, F1, WEC, GT & sports cars, rallying, motogp, road racing and historic.

Thought the start of a new season might be a good time to crank this conversation back into life! Add some fresh fuel and see if it'll fire...

Points that have stood out to me recently:

Possible close competition between four teams at the sharp end in F1 - how we tend to get convergence and close racing just before the rules get reset and one team becomes dominant again?

Marc Marquez good to see back at the front - but deliberately dropping back to second to get tyre pressures up to minimum was odd to see. And hoping Jorge Martin can be competitive when he gets back on the Aprilia. Is Ducati too strong with their trick aero?

Enjoying the close racing in WEC season opener, but with Ferrari 1,2,3, the Balance of Performance weight ballast seems to penalise some cars and feels artificial? Good mix of engine types and sounds though:)

Interesting to see WRC have dropped the hybrid power train as too expensive to repair.

It'll be interesting to see how motorsport generally develops technology that feeds into road cars, from synthetic fuels, two-strokes, hydrogen ICE or fuel cell, hybrid and BEV

I don't get the time these days to sit and watch F1...I gave up on it some years ago.

The Rally is tricky to watch as well given they keep changing where it is but managed to see the first 2 events this year. Seems to be an interesting dynamic where the previously unstoppable Kalle Rovenpera is finding it difficult to adapt to none hybrid cars and is a bit nowhere while his team mate and disappointment for the last few years Elfyn Evans is actually doing well and leading the championship after 2 events.

Really should watch the BTCC this year..that's just one I got too far behind with a few years ago and got out of the Habit.

Other than the Rally...I manage to watch Drift masters which is mainly enjoyable for very basic reasons of lots of smoke, lots of breakage and over excitable commentators. However more action in one round than the last 5 years of F1 I saw...

Yeah, I too was expecting Rovenpera to hit the ground running, seeing how blistering he was a couple of years ago. Especially in Rally Sweden. Good to see Elfyn Evans looking strong:)

I also stopped following BTCC a few years back. I think again it was adding ballast that turned me off a bit.
I should give it a go again, I enjoyed the close racing, but I think all these series need to be careful it doesn't become too contrived...

...speaking of F1... I also don't follow the whole season, but cherry pick the events that appeal to me. Half the races I couldn't give a stuff about.
There's a lot I don't like about it, clown tyres, restrictive spec and DRS overtakes, but I do think it's a golden age for driving talent right now :)

It might be but to be honest...

After watching this for a while...this is one battle in about a 4 hour show.

F1 seems incredibly inert..

Should say Kalle Rovenpera is in this championship in a supra and he's nowhere here as well.

Drifting's not really my thing, but I do enjoy seeing machinery sideways in the pursuit of the quickest way through a corner, as in rallying and historic motorsport, or bikes being backed in to a corner

I agree aero-dominated series lose quite a bit of appeal when they lose sideways action. And 'dirty air' has damaged racing for too long.

I understand motogp has decided to get rid of the downforce inducing aero soon. I approve. If the genie can be put back in the bottle?

Goodwood revival and the other events at the Circuit are very much on my list of things I should watch...but never do.

The car control in the touring car category is usually incredible. Justin Law in a MK2 Jaguar is usually very good value for money.

The drifting is interesting in that at that level of probably is the fastest way around the track in terms of average speed because they run about 10-15 psi in the tyres and cars fully set up to grip so they only slide because they've got 1000bhp and some mad man has brutalised them into doing so. Of course this does mean they destroy a set of tyres in 2 runs entirely, they run the cars so grippy that it will lift a front wheel while sliding in the opposite of the hot hatch rear wheel lift.

Never hit the bikes I'm afraid..
