the sei will likely just need the gear linkage adjusted, but imo why was it needing a clutch at 62k, unless its been driven hard, and the cinq....welding is expensive, the trouble being that you normally end up with a hole twice the size of what it originally looked like as you cut back to good steel. Personally, i would go for the sei and fiddle about with the box.

The clutch bearings wear on centos, rather than the clutch themselves. if the clutch gets ridden a lot it wears, the clutch then gets heavy and snaps the cable and pivots non stop. probably just needs cable adjusted

I can get the welding work done on the cinq, brake pipes replaced and also MOTd for around £130 so looking at a cinq on the road for £300 with 1yrs tax and mot. I think sounds good so long as dont have to cut the rust back to far.

Is there anyway in telling on a test drive in Sei if its possibly needing adjusted?

Check how easy reverse is to engage, if that's sticky too or even locked off too, then it's needing adjusted. Second might also feel a little stiff if it's needing adjusted.

If it's just first there's an issue, it'll be selector related.

The way the advert description is this "This car has been fitted with a new clutch for the MOT which passed. Since getting this done the car pulls away in 2nd gear as if in 1st and hasnt been a problem with us to drive and its used daily. This is the reason for the price"

I am tempted by it but only if its an easy fix and not having to get a new cluctch in it or gearbox.

They said the only problem was 1st gear will not engage.

How easy are they to adjust?

very, can be done with a spanner under the bonnet :)

Check reverse, if it is stiff or crunchy, it's 99% likely it's the cable needing adjusted.

Check all the gears, if second "feels like first" and first doesn't seem to exist/locked off, the gear linkage is probably on upside down.

Im starting to think more about the idea of getting welding done and it coming back again.

The sei is still tempting but whats the best and worst case senario.... new clutch, cable adjustment, gearbox etc. They have dropped the price from £400 to £350 today

Well finally found one today.... and the very kind gentlemen even delivered it too

51 plate Abarth in yellow, 75k, needs a little tlc but i dont mind

Thanks I downloaded the handbook and repair manual.

The centre exit exhaust looks like bit of a botch up, that will have to be replaced at some point but hopefully not too soon though.

After a bit more investigation i noticed the airbox is only held on by one bolt, there is not seal between the box and the throttle housing and the intake house is also missing.
